Their country their rules, it's not a free country just look at all the NO things on that sign and the biggest one of them is the drone but I'm sure for a small fee, you can get a permit and the no quickly becomes a yes.

Not that I plan on leaving the USA, I would check the rules of the destination before taking anything.

It is possible to fly with the credentials.

.

Yes, in Nassau, there are permits available. I didn't check into them but there's a lot of helicopter activity in the area so that might be part of it.
They may just want to be able to alert others to drone traffic, or to verify guidelines that must be followed by drone operators.
OR, they want you to pay some cash.

Anyone want to call the number on the sign?

Get yourself a VFR sectional chart for where you plan to fly. Sure saves headaches PLUS The chart will tell you whats around what they are doing and why you should or should not fly somewhere.

The Bahamas have a money grab scheme for drone pilots.
All drones pilots regardless of size of drones must pay a US$30 fee (US$50 at the last minute) for a temporary certificate that's only good for the length of your stay, even if it's just one day off the cruise ship.

We tried to do inspection work a few years ago after storm and they wanted a permit for each flight. Each take off and landing was a flight. Tried to get a blanket permit by offering 10K$ to cover us for unlimited flights. No go.

Crazy.
And you probably wouldn't need a permit if you were using a helicopter.

I wouldn't be too sure about that. Everything coming into the Bahamas is subject to tax at market value.
You certainly couldn't keep it there without being taxed.
