"Motor overload due to extreme height conditions"? I guess it is possible if your starting altitude is high enough the thin air would cause the motors to overload in normal flying just keeping it up in the thin air.
Of course, at 2 miles out you cannot see what else may have happened so you are only left with the logs and their interpretation.
