Okay, this will probably sound funny, as my understanding of the whole SDK thing is almost zero, but I thought DJI was allowng users to somehow upgrade/improve the drone's capabilites in terms of adding new features. Or am I completely wrong?

I've heard no such news but I might be wrong since I neither have the M2EA nor do I follow news about it.

The SDK primarily exists to give third-party software developers the tools to write control apps that use the existing functionality.
