The film was certainly dramatic! I found some repetition, which could have the needed shortening. Also, the jump cuts could have been changed to cross/dissolves. The best part for me was the dramatic high mountain scenes of the last 1/3rd of the film. You certainly bit off a really long hike! Music selection was appropriate for the last third, but at the beginning, something more melodic would have been better. By cutting the repeated shots, you could have shortened it to 3 minutes without losing anything.
Hope this is not too critical for you.

Thanks so much for the honest feedback!
I’m glad the high mountain scenes in the last third made an impact; that was exactly the feeling I wanted to capture.
I totally agree that the beginning could use something more melodic, and trimming the repeated shots would definitely help tighten things up.

I really appreciate your suggestions. They’re super helpful and not too harsh at all.

Thanks again!

0:30 - Feel like you could've done more with the transmission line in the fog
1:08-1:12 - Shot meanders to the right towards the end which looks unnecessary / unprofessional

Use of rotating gimbal was not overdone and came off well.
3:55 - Looks like you were flying backward while zooming in? Looks good.

This is certainly a beautiful place but I feel like a lot of the footage just didn’t match up.
I also agree with Dale that it could have been a shorter video.
I really like the ground level footage of you walking and making your way through the trail.
I do think you did a great job making something special, keep up the good work, keep experiment, and keep posting!

I’m glad you liked the ground-level shots and really appreciate your feedback. I’ll definitely consider making a shorter version in the future and will keep experimenting with new shots.
Thanks for the support!

  1. Yeah, I agree - but you know how it is, while you’re filming, you don’t always have a clear picture of the final product.
  2. I agree - that one’s on me.
  3. Glad to hear that, but that wasn’t the gimbal - that was all done in post.
  4. Nope, that was also postproduction.

All in all, thanks for the thoughts and suggestions!
