Mavic Deliveries - UK

Braver than me (flying indoors that is) . Forecast for the rest of the week is much better from tomorrow. Unusually for me, apart from updating the firmware, I calibrated nothing, not even the compass. And it flies like a dream.

Hi Wacker,
I calibrated everything and it flies like a dream. Why are you reticent to calibrate? After all the problems (failures?) of spinning out of control etc, I didn't want to expose anything to risk. Check the status of all the sensors in the app just to make sure all is calibrated correctly. Don't forget there are failsafe sensors that double up; you may be risking your Mavic unnecessarily if you've lost that double indemnity.

Never really trusted Heliguy as they take payment for preorders. Also, they specialise in drones so any handfuls if stock are probably going straight to their staff or being flogged on eBay for double.

Could say the same about other retailers but I smelt the bullsh*t when they banged on about being a tier 1 retailer.

The only retailer I can see who's being honest and actually sending decent amounts out are Maplin.
Seems that way at the moment. I'm calling Heliguy in morning and cancelling all. Combo, extra batts and bits.

Not reticent to calibrate, it's just totally unnecessary if, and only if everything checks out in the app. I've flown Phantoms for years now, and can probably count the amount of times I've calibarated IMU's/compasses etc on 2 hands. It's just totally unnecessary, unless you're miles away from your usual flight location, in which case it may be an idea to calibrate the compass. Having said that, I must admit it was unusual for me not to calibrate the compass seeing as it's come all the way from China, but the mod values on mine are well within acceptable levels. Calibrating all the time just increases the risk of a bad one. I'm not stating facts, just an opinion based on my own experiences.

Might be worth still hanging in there mate. Even if it's the 19/12 you'll do pretty well to get one before Jan/Feb now if you go elsewhere.

Maplin did say they had a few preorder places for the 28th today though so you might get in with them if you're quick... they did say that two large shipments are due but not confirmed yet.

Good to hear from someone with your experience. Not having flown such a sophisticated aircraft before, I am wary of all the reports that show Mavics flying out of control for no apparent reason, which prompted me to calibrate all sensors in fear of badly calibrated drones being the cause of these "mystery" crashes. From your reply it would appear I'm increasing my risk by introducing a poor calibration.

To be fair Andy they haven't got a clue and I'm busy over Christmas and new year with moving to Canada from UK... Drones are taking a back seat.... eBay time for inspire 1 and Osmo... Not investing any more time and energy in DJI... When the Mavic 2 appears in April [emoji6] I may reconsider but even then the way this whole pre order BS has gone is a joke. Whether it's DJI or Heliguy at fault who knows.

HeliGuy just update the "Arriving On" date when it gets to 7 days before the actual date.

At one time it was end Oct. Then 7th Nov. Then 14th Nov. Was 28th Nov and now gone to 19 Dec. My guess is once they get to near that date it'll become 28 Jan. Then 28 Feb. Repeat till your order arrives from somewhere else!

I really backed the wrong pony by ordering from HeliGuy - almost every other dealer has had some small amounts of stock - even Marlins! They told me they have had nothing - not one ( except demo model ) and no update on when they might arrive.

Apple are starting to get up my shirt ... still as of today my orders says available November .. yes there still 8days of November left . But no actual indication if I'll get one at all.

Apple customer service don't have a clue , no inside information other than just to keep checking my order only ... which I've been doing since the 27th Sep arrrrr

I'm pretty sure a retailer like Heliguy would love to fulfill their orders and have some stock to sell.

This farce has been created by DJI and no one else in my opinion. Taking tens of thousands of orders for a product that hasn't been manufactured yet is incredibly foolish and greedy but then that seems to be the way they do business.

Unfortunately there is no real competition and so we're all stuck waiting.

Given my new faulty mavic i am keeping all my options open and have requested a replacement mavic from Selfridges (they are obliged to offer me a replacement as mine is faulty).

They are going to call me as soon as they know about stock, and will put one aside.

I just need to see who is going to come good first - either DJI with a shipping label (still a good option) or Selfridges with a new drone to swap with.

Either way i ought to find out when they have stock fairly quickly and will be sure to let you lot know if i hear anything.

Selfridges just now told me they had only had one delivery of mavics so far, which doesn't quite ring true with what Spocks post said, as they were out of stock on Thursday lunch, and were not reserving stock. Don't know how they had a'cancelled order'. Well done you, though, for your perseverance!

This is one reason - as well as the cost - that I've not bought off Ebay. Many of them say "Unopened and never flown" - which is great but they have no idea if they actually work. And most of the auctions say they don't accept returns! So its taking a big risk - you could end up with a £2,400 door stop! Not sure if DJI would let you return to them?

DJI will absolutely support Mavics bought in this way, it's no different than buying one as a present for somebody..

I was going to go down this route before getting lucky with an order. I would just make sure that you get the supplier's invoice too.

quite how people can blame retailers for this situation i havnt clue.. the retailer knows what DJI tells them.. what DJI tells them cannot be relied upon..

the retailer took orders in good faith.. they are now in the undeniable position of being constantly badgered by their customers asking about when they are going to ship their orders.. the retailer dosnt know.. the customer certainly aint happy with an honest "we havant a clue" answer and who can blame them..

what we have now is direct buyers who ordered right at the beginning seem to be getting their mavicks.. we are talking people who ordered over six weeks ago.. a few people who have ordered around the same time from some larger retailers also seem to be getting their mavics.. the odd mavic turning up in stores but not many.. mavics being flipped on ebay at double the retail price..

i keep seeing november.. december.. january.. so far i aint seen many mentions of february or march.. but all these "future" figures are pure speculation.. nothing else.. DJI do not seem able to catch up with a growing backlog of pre-ordered.. most of which will be multiple just in case or flip on ebay for a nice little profit orders.. the snag with retailers not taking money up front and they all seem to still be taking orders.. which is something i will fault them for..

what i am hoping to see is some signs of DJI catching up.. so far all i see is DJI getting farther and farther behind and future prediction figures getting farther and farther away..

it will be interesting to see how all this pans out in the end and what lessons get learnt from it.. he he

It does feel like they could be a bit more pro-active with information as to when they might get deliveries.
My order is with RCGeeks on 28th September and not heard a peep though on facebook they've replied to (others) queries with "sorry don't know"

When it was obvious very few were going out we knew the score but now a lot more youtube video are appearing as units get delivered widely - but still not a peep or even vague estimate?
Not actually all that bothered considering there will only be 2 or 3 days I might have used it before Feb.
If nothing else early pre-orders are £100 less than current price, and with continued scarcity they won't be getting discounted for months yet.

imagine a scenario where DJI cannot fix whatever manufacturing/shipping problems they have.. how long will it take for them to come clean and admit this.. call me a pessimist maybe.. but the scenario i have just described is pretty much what i see..

gopro launched their karma.. very quickly they realized it (or they) had problems.. very quickly they did their a recall and canceled production and sales.. they did the right thing.. maybe DJI should have done the same.. maybe in the end they will have to.. :)

Jeez, can somebody get trog a Mavic ffs so he can stop dreaming up these conspiracy theories.. :D
