Hello guys,

I've been flying my new Mavic Mini indoors as its too cold outside, below 0C'! So I've not had any problems flying indoors except that I like to look at my parameters during my flight, and noticed that my battery temperature rises to about over 40C' to 42C' by the time I fly 12 to 15 minutes. In my mind 42% is too hot for my Lithium ion battery and I just land and then wait for the battery to cool off all naturally by itself indoors still. Usually I end up just charging it again to 100% once its cooled off completely!

So my question is: "will it be bad if I fly the whole battery non stop - down to 20%?"

"Will it get to like over 50C' ? which is cooking already in my opinion?"

"Is this bad for the battery to fly indoors and have its temperature rise to about 50C'?"

I mean it probably does have a battery temperature too high warning, but I really don't wanna get to that! I love to fly very much and so when its very cold outside or too much wind, over 29km/h at 100m height then I prefer to be safe and just fly indoors.

Dang I was just about to tell you that I've had 46c whilst flying outdoors as looking at airdata it seems to show that but it was actually glitchy GPS that did that. I've had a max height of 46c whilst indoors.

Thank you for you reply.

I'm scared of damaging my battery, and as batteries seem to be very difficult to find still anywhere! when I was firstly flying and I realized that the battery temperature was rising I would usually land the Mavic Mini at just around 40C'! The highest I've had my battery temperature was 41.6C' and I landed immediately. In order to keep the battery healthy we have to really look after it properly. Like if you're not going to fly your Mini for about a week (7 to 10 days maximum) - then you should keep the battery at storage voltage, which is about 60% I think of power left in the battery. If I'm not mistaken - DJI says the same that if you're not gonna fly for 10 days or more the battery level should be between 50% and 60% - storage voltage is about 3.8 volts per cell - but 3.65 is also ok for Li-ion batteries - the 3.8v storage voltage is for the Li-Po batteries!

This is one aspect of keeping them batteries healthy - another is the temperature at which you begin to charge the battery - your battery should be at normal room temperature when you begin to and when you are charging it. Charging hot, especially recently used batteries damages them, they seem to loose their "ooooooooooooommmmmmmph" and also loose their ability to retain a good charge.

I also don't immediately fly after charging the battery, I usually wait at least 30mins after I fully charge a battery!

Is there a way to maybe increase the cooling of the lil fella, or is there maybe a certain way to fly it indoors so that it does not heat up so much. I usually just land and wait some time for it too cool off naturally for about 30 mins at least and then fly the second half of the battery - or just charge it up again!

Sweet

PS: can't wait for after work to fly my lil baby Mavic Mini! Gonna fly it with love and care - this thing is truly amazing! I love it to bits!!!

I've just checked and whilst flying outside in 0-5c temperatures I've seen battery temps of 30-35c looking back at logs.
As an extra, take the little guy outside and show it some love. If it's not too windy you'll be fine. Just dont fly when its too damp and cold as you dont want ice forming. If you take off whilst it's warm you'll be fine for a bit.

I'm actually hoping we have snow soon as I want to get some photos of snow over my new house! :D

Flying outside in 0 - 5 degrees Celsius and having the battery heat up to 30C' to 35C' is actually not that bad hey, this way your drone's internals are kept nice and warm while the drone is cold on the outside!

I've seen that the Mavic Mini does have an Error Message for low battery temperature, I've seen it on YouTube in some video - but does it have for high temperature? I guess flying in Antarctica with the Mavic Mini would be cool, since it generates such sweet heat from the battery it can keep the drone internals all nice and warm, like the GPS module and the rest of the flight controllers.

sweet...
