Back in my Navy days, I spent three days on the Enterprise while it operated off Vietnam from midnight to noon. I watched those Navy pilots take off and land in the dark. They are among the best and perhaps craziest of all pilots. Maverick was the extreme, but not too far off.

It's not just jet jockeys either. I knew a lot of helo pilots. One of them decided to do a flyby of the ship and hit the superstructure with the rotor. Pretty sure he ended up manning a desk in Nebraska.
