I have been hearing about this for a while. About ready to give up and get the Mini 4, but just in case.......

Really getting tired of the click bait on YouTube where they promise a new model coming and show pictures and pre-recorded video of the same shots over and over. Other than those same videos, has anybody heard anything? They also were talking about the Air 3 and looks like that is legit with the FCC filing.

<250g DJI drones tend to be released yearly, but they reached the point of diminishing returns with the Mini 3 Pro.

Whenever the Mini 5 comes out it won't do anything that the 3 or the 4 can't.

When tech reaches the point of diminishing returns, there's no point in waiting anymore. I changed my Canon 6D for a Canon R6 (10 years appart or so) and you can't see any difference even pixel peeping. You need to force the shadows up on the DNGs to see anything different and even then the differences are negligible if you want to print 20x25 or even worst, if you want to publish it online.

R5 vs the recent R5Mk II... two drops of water, it's completely impossible to tell the difference.

What has improved in the later years in hand held photography is the autofocus; the AF to the eye is God.

Drones are on the same league now, The Mavic 4 won't be much of a change compared to the current M3.

I'm "waiting" for the M4 because I already have an M3 that I fly every day, but if you don't have a drone just pick the Mini 4, the Mini 3, the Mini 2 4K or however it is called now, or even the Neo, there are plenty of drones to choose.

The newest model does not mean the best. Aas someone who flys more than he takes photos I will say the Original Mavic is still the most fun flyer, Sure the new stuff may have some slight tweeks here and there BUT Its all in how you use them. The MINI 2 is STILL the best MINI for flight and DJI is up to the MINI 4 now. Buy a Drone that will get the job done and Don't sweat the "new" features you probably won't notice much anyway.

I posted the FCC filing here:

I went from the first gen Mini to the Mini 3 Pro and couldn't disagree more lol

I vote get the Mini 4 Pro now. It has become 'tried and tested' and pretty much all the early bugs are already gone.
It works really nicely, and it's difficult to see what the 5 might add that would make it significantly better.

They are already within grams of the target 250g, so they can't make it heavier (meaning they probably can't add another lens / sensor) 8K is going to cause overheating problems (we're already dicing with danger at 4K60 on hot days on the M4P) and they can't add any more sensors than it already has ! Occusync 4 is already amazing, and way in excess of VLOS, so no point in adding anything there. It's already got RID for when that becomes necessary. What else could we want a drone that size to reasonably do ?! Perhaps they will find a way to boost its wind resistance somehow, but again, I suspect they already did what they could.

Perhaps the only truly impressive thing they could come up with is an Obstacle Avoidance AI that is skydio-level, but with the existing or similar sensors.

If you are looking for a drone <250g, I agree with @AeroJ go ahead and get it now

I wouldn't even get the Mini4 right now I'd get the Mini3 without hestitation. I suspect that the Mini5 will have "upgrades" like better obstacle avoidance and maybe "smarter" object tracking and things like that...maybe some new variation of the existing sensor. But as others have said the return on investment over something cheaper like the Mini3 is minimal.

I seem to recall hearing that DJI has stopped production on the Mini 3 Pro. Part of the reason I was waiting on the 5. Heck I started on the Mini 2. It took some wonderful photos and videos. It might just be my inexperience but I got better results from it than my Mavic Classic.

What makes you think that sunsetting one product ends up in another being released?
Mini 4 pro was released merely a year ago - the production end of it isn't even in sight.

Hence I reckon you ignore the AI generated nonsense on youtube, its just geared towards FOMO and views

Mavic 3 production stopped a few weeks ago and all we saw (allegedly) for mavic 4 is a leaked gimbal.
Far from production

I don't think any of us really know what the production schedules of the various drone models really are. It's usually not set in stone and it depend on many variables. It is likely the mini 3 pro is no longer coming fresh off the factory line and into boxes for sale unless there are retailers that have orders for it. Also replacements are needed, warranties have to be filled, sometimes there are still parts laying around or found....you just never know but honestly, it really shouldn't be a big concern to the consumer since all recent drone models are fully supported by DJI and none of the models mentioned recently are near end of life.

The main reason I personally skipped the Mini 4 Pro was because it was too similar to my Mini 3 Pro and when it launched, I didn't want to necessary start in with the new ecosystem of controllers and goggles and such. To me, there was a good time to buy the Mini 4 Pro but this late in the game, I would wait to see if there is a Mini 5 Pro. Unless you can't wait, there are used and refurb drones that have limited lifespans and as always you are free to sell your drone and upgrade. As far as parts and compatibility are concerned, it's possible the Mini 5 Pro won't be so friendly with the Mini 3/4 accessories, so there's that.

Where? Never seen a mention of that outside of wishlists. At best there'll be some totally unsubstantiated cliclbait. If you watched things mentioning that whoever made it scammed you, got the clicks they wanted and made some undeserved money.

I agree with most of the posts. I M still quite happy with Mini 2. I use it for travel only. Primary drone is M3.

I think it will be the Air 3S this year and the Mini 5 Pro sometime in 2025. Mavic's are due for a refresh too (even if I just picked up a M3 Cine).

@4 inch pistons, if you need a Mini 4 Pro now, why not just go ahead and get one. You can always sell it if a newer Mini comes out that has features that you need. Waiting around for the next model never really works out and you will miss out on all the shots you could take with it now.

I have a Mini 3 Pro and will not update to the next mini unless there are major improvements in the camera. In Canada, my Mini 3 Pro allows me to fly it where I otherwise could not fly my larger Mavic 3 drone - that is the main reason I bought it.

I'm using anR5 and R5II and the autofocus improvement on the R5II is rather substantial in my opinion. Wildlife focus and tracking is easier now.

Mini 4 Pro runs off of DJI's O4 transmission system, which is their latest version, meaning it works with all the latest controllers/goggles and to me that is the most important thing. O4 is also used on the latest version of the Air 3 and the recently released Avata 2. This leads me to believe they won't be replacing it quite yet and really no need to come out with a new Mini on this system. The big boy Mavic, on the other hand, still runs off of O3, so my guess is that would be replaced first. But DJI does churn out upgrades at a good clip so who knows.

Either way, that's why I went with the M4P. I waited a couple months to buy my mine (only had it for a month now) because of the same videos and feel like I wasted good flying weather. Depending on where you live you may still have plenty of time left in the year before it gets too cold (for me at least, hahaha). Great rig and tons of fun! Enjoy it!
