So the FAA ruling: register yes or no?
Yes I looked - a gazillion pages of back and forth, yes and no, armchair legal beagles hard at pontificating on everything except the simple answer - yes or no.

Also - DJI Go shows I'm in a no-fly zone. I checked and there's a stupid helipad on one of the local medical clinics. Really? Wondering at implications since those things are all over the place. B4UFly doesn't show it as restricted...

I don't think the ruling was vague at all. The end result was a clear NO to registration.

As for your NFZ, is it a true NFZ or just an unlockable NFZ?

It went away after this last update - weird.
Anyway I got to fly the maiden flight today - what a hoot!
This thing is far easier than the helicopter I tried a while back.
Crashed into trees twice - both from travelling sideways.
First time it surprised the heck out of me by recovering and leveling off, Second time was when landing and it tumbled 2 feet. Not a scratch from either - just some cedar smell from mowing the limbs.
I definitely learned the limits for precision return to home.
Then some bozo showed up with his dog off leash and jumped the Mavic on takeoff with battery #2. He got his nose thwacked good. I didn't even see him coming out of the weeds.
But all in all a great learning experience that gave me plenty to bone up on - I'm a learn by do then feedback kind of guy.
