The other day I was on a TV shoot and the producer wanted an extra drone shot. We could only do this while filming the take so I agreed to fly the drone up and just let it hoover in one spot while we were filming. I put the drone in a safe spot away from people and over some grass and got ready to film the scene. Just before action, we just suddenly heard the drone turn off before a thud as it hit the ground. Not a very nice feeling to say the least. Luckily nobody got hurt. When we picked up the drone it was still on, but no rotors running. What the hell could cause this? I suspect a bad battery connection, just weird the drone was on after the fall from the sky. The camera was running, but recording stopped before it fell down

You can upload and review your flight log here. If you'd like others to review and comment on your flight log, then please post it here.

@Yoak
The flight log has a lot of data info!! REALLY!

Its your turn, must be 10 members here that can really annualize that data.
@msinger is one of them, I'm in the top 100 for Phantoms.1000 for Mavics :rolleyes: 👌

Rod ..

I was trying to figure out how to get the files from my smart controller to my Mac, but the software different websites are linking to doesn't exist anymore (Android file transfer).
How do I get hold of the files?

I've had this happen on an Air 2S. The battery swelled just enough to disconnect but not enough to eject it from the aircraft. Motors stopped and it came down from about 30 ft. When I went over to retrieve the drone, it had already rebooted itself and was on...laying on the ground. This was one of my older Air 2 batteries that have all since been grounded for update work.

I was wondering about a swelling battery too, however, if it swelled enough to just it off, how does a reconnection from impact also turn the drone back on. It needs a user to double press that button to get it turned back on, surely. I suppose in this case, he could look at the video, if it was recording and see if it was filming the entire time, right down to impact. That would tell you if it was just the motors that shut off. I'm curious to see what the data will reveal.

The battery never powered off, it just disconnected. You can double press the battery outside of the aircraft and turn it on. Even as it disconnected, there was still power. The jolt of it hitting the ground reconnected the battery to the aircraft.

Ahhh, understood, so that means if I turn on my battery and then plug it into my drone, it will start up the drone. Therefore, if he was recording, it will show that it hut off when the battery disconnected. However, if it shows video until it hit the ground, or longer, then that would mean the battery did not disconnect, but rather, the motors suddenly stopped, for some reason.

@Yoak
I like many of these theories, believe some are on it.

I'm going stay in the background until you post something.
