I have an Air 2s and starting to get more into video shoots and would like a good option for video editing. Looking for something different than the built in DJI one (lightcut app). I would say I am intermediate skill in video and usually shoot in D log or HLG. Thank you for any help!

I use Adobe Products. They are costly, but the best out there IMHO

I am just a newbie, but I find DaVinci has a ton of ability for titles, transitions, audio, and multiples of everything.

that all depends on what you want to do

anticipate a pretty steep learning curve for a lot of the better editors

for myself, the first tool in my toolbox is Avidemux. In copy mode you can cut out parts of your videos that are unnecessary. I always have times when my flight is stopped while I make various adjustments and find my bearings. Those seconds/minutes are not needed in my final video

those cuts are easy in Avidemux once you learn your way around the app. If you're just recording your videos in standard H264/H265 with either 4K or 1080. then Avidemux might be the only editor you need. Once you're in an editing mode, you can adjust contrast/brighness, colors, temperature, etc. You can speed up the video; crop, re-size, etc. It's a pretty effective tool and the price is right...it's free

now, if you record in D-Log and need to apply LUTs and filters, then you'll probably need a more advanced editor. Avidemux allows you to apply Luts but I've never used that feature. When I record in D-Log I have used CapCut and applied the DJI Luts

be advised: all of these editors are CPU intensive. If you do a lot of editing it's best to have a good GPU and slide some of the processing load to that GPU

I have Davinci Resolve and Premier Pro and for the past few years I've used Davinci Resolve exclusively. I can produce the best images on DR. Both platforms have steep learning curves but that is to be expected. Platforms that do a lot demand a lot of learning.

Davinci Resolve is pretty powerful and perhaps the best editor for color grading, if working with D-Log is your primary intention. The free version has a lot of pro level features.

Get the free version of DaVinci Resolve, but also do yourself a favour and buy the Speed Editor which goes with that editing suite. there are excellent training videos right on the DaVinci Resolve website, or Black Magic, on how to use the speed editor.

It will make editing Sooooo much easier and faster. It is well worth the few hundred-dollar investment and is wireless, so no cables connecting it to your computer.

Every now and then if you buy the Pro version of Davinci Resolve, they throw in the speed editor for free, so watch for that too. I also have Premier Pro and DaVinci has a much lower learning curve.

Great suggestion. Very useful little keyboard with a jog wheel as well. You also get a license for Davinci Resolve Studio with the unit. Excellent deal.

I too, like G Fields, use Adobe Premiere Pro. That is the one I learned on and I have managed (as mentioned here in the forum numerous times) a nice discount by calling Adobe directly and just asking for a better price. I use Photoshop and Lightroom for LR Timelapse as well ,and I get the entire creative suite (over 50 apps, most of which I will never use, but love PDF maker) for a monthly price that I can afford. Creative Cloud all app $29.99 a month on a yearly basis.

You are still spending out almost $360 a year and never owning it. The day you stop paying the ransom is the day you won't be able to use it at any time in the future.

Not so if you actually bought and owned the software, such as DaVinci. If you get the paid version of it, you can use it for ever and you paid less than a years of ransom charges from Adobe.

I went through all of these decisions, and since my main interest is photography, and that I have been using Photoshop, Lightroom for over 40 years (when it was possible to own a disc of the program). With the full Adobe suite, I have the benefit of calling for live Adobe support with screen sharing, in India which is excellent for Premiere, as well as the other apps. These support guys are brilliant and they have never failed to help me, especially with video editing. I also got interested in LRTimelapse which incorporates Lightroom into the program. I do a ton of timelapses so I love having ownership of Lightroom too. I understand the $360 a year ( which is half of the real price after my negotiations with Adobe), but I can afford the $360 a year for Photoshop, Lightroom, Bridge, Premiere, Adobe PDF. with the support day through night 5 days a week. The support provides screen sharing by the Indian tech. It is $12.00 a month for Photoshop and Lightroom alone, so for another $14.00 I get the tech support and the use of all of the photo apps I am used to, have learned well, and provide me with editing not available in other software's such as powerful masking tools, and AI photo editing including generative AI to complete parts of an image that did not exist (such as cut off feet or head).

To summarize- I am getting Photoshop-Lightroom- Premiere live support with screen sharing. Lightroom to use with my timelapse LRTimelapse software, Generative AI editing in Photoshop and Lightroom, the use of powerful masking tools which allow me to individually edit dark foregrounds with high dynamic range drone views, and I am paying $29.99 per month, plus getting the use of Adobe PDF to create and to fill in PDF forms, plus many other Adobe apps. if I want to create my own web site, CAD (designs), Bridge to help sort and edit thousands of images, Media encoder, AI to creates stunning graphics, etc.

Hey @Dale D ....what kind of computer are you using?....I had to get a new computer about a year ago and since I got it, loading photos and videos has been a nightmare trying to find where they got stored....point is, I have a decent computer, but I don't think it would handle that much work...photography has not been as much fun since this problem started....I think Photos Legacy has been the cause

I moved from PC to MAC several years ago and I am now on my 2nd iMAC 24 inch M3 chip. The first version was 28 inches Intel chip.

I love the Mac. It is so intuitive for graphics, photography, and video. Here are some of the specs(see below illustration). I would go with the most memory (1 TB) possible. The best specs you can afford. Apple is a great company, with great American (Southern California) support. (I know some on this forum do not agree) .

Storage for trips with two backup SSD (solid state) drives and is done daily during travel, or sometimes twice a day on two (2) 2Tb Samsung solid state hard drives . see Amazon photo below. All of these Samsung SSD's are used for primary source for editing and both backups are labeled and stored (date of shooting- subject of shoot). They are also backed up on the Seagate 8TB disk drives.

The MAC is backed up by two (2) Seagate Backup 8 TB drives and everything is backed up twice, plus I have one of the Backup drives and the Mac covered by a Carbonite subscription which is backed up continuously.

I mostly edit in Adobe Photoshop (the latest version at all times from Adobe Creative Cloud)) comes with regular upgrades almost weekly of new stuff. Also edit a bit using Topaz DeNoise AI, Luminar 4, and NIK software. (latest versions).

Mark,
Feel free to write to me for any other questions on conversation.
Dale

I bought DaVinci Resolve Studio when it was version 14, it is now version 19. So I have upgraded from 14, to 15, all the way to 19 at No Additional Cost. The tutorials on Youtube are excellent, and there is a free Beginners Guide for v19 also available. I have Edius X (great software), Premiere Pro and DaVinci, of those DaVinci is by far the best and most versatile for colour grading and audio. For still photos I use Skylum Neo and On1 RAW (both purchased, as I do not agree with, or like, subscription based software). I very rarely ever use Photoshop anymore.

Oh I completely understand Dale, and it is good that you have no problem with paying out over $1,400 in the next 4 years, if they don't choose to raise the ransom. I have also had Photoshop for many years but bought my last ownership copy at 6 and it still does a great job. I also have Topaz and ON1 RAW and it also does layers and generated fill in etc. as does Photoshop and you get a year of free upgrades but if i want another future year, the cost has been from $65 to $79 for a year.

However, in 4 years If I choose not to upgrade, I have not spent out a penny in all that time, yet I can still use the software. Not everyone can afford to throw out $360 a year. and be at their mercy for raising the monthly cost. I think ON1 RAW and Topaz and NIK does just about everything most people require on here, for photo editing, and you can buy them all and own them for ever, for the cost of about one year of rental from Adobe.

Plus, you don't need to be connected to the internet at all, to use those editing bundles. If you are not connected to the internet for a few months, maybe you are somewhere remote on holiday, Adobe will shut you down and as I mentioned, we will be able to use our software whenever we wish, without a further penny being spent. If you stop your rental, it won't be long before you lose access to the use of it all, from Adobe. Photoshop and Premier Pro are great, I've used them for years, but I just don't want to be held to ransom by them.

I've been using Vegas Pro since about 2007 and love it. Pretty intuitive, has lots of features, great audio editor, too.
