New, fresh from the box, then a defect?? Return or not?

I had a Mini 2 that came defective. I made the mistake of returning it to DJI rather than B&H, the retailer and it took 2 weeks to send it in to DJI and receive a replacement. They have to receive it, inspect it, put in for a replacement, make shipping label... yada yada... and 5 days of shipping in each direction. Had I knows B&H would have replaced it immediately and I'd have had 2 day shipping in both directions I'd have sent it back to them. Any chance you purchased it from an authorized dealer rather than DJI?
That's WHY I DEAL with B&H. Never ever had an issue on anything I bought from them over many years. Have some of best prices too.

This is why I only by locally at retailers who give a 30-45 day exchange or return policy. No matter what happens, they always give an exchange without any questions asked. The taxes suck, but it's worth it.
Is Costco going to carry the Air2S and others? Not been a member for a couple of years and where I live - closest one is a 2 hour drive each way. There is online though.

would be interesting to see if people check closely on their own Air 2s, i saw another on line somewhere looked the same even the same side i believe. i will check mine when i collect before leaving the store .looks like they have a manufacturing issue or quality control.not good to see even though its only a small patch it will get bigger as the paints not bonded at all to the metal.

Just a little touch up paint will fix it and do not lose it because I am sure you will be using it some more.
Put it thru the works and make sure everything works before you make up your mind.
If it was me I would just paint it or forget it.

I don't know about costco. I know Best Buy sells in store and online. Walmart sells maybe Online only. If you have either of these nearby you'll be safer buying from them. DJI and Autel don't question return or exchanges they get from these big distributors. They don't want to lose the market revenue they get from them.

I found that buying from an authorized dealers is better in so many ways than buying direct. You can still get Care/Refresh from DJI, but the level of service from independent companies is so much better in my experience.

In regards to the taxes issue. FYI, B&H Camera offers a credit card called, Payboo.
It's issued by Synchrony Bank. The deal is simple, you get $75.00 off. or taxes paid. Once you get approved. The only catch I experienced was Synchrony Bank didn't give me immediate approval. I received a letter from the bank 7 days later, after my purchase, saying they needed more info that "I" was the one requesting the credit line, as the rep told me. I had already bought the drone using my cc at the time. The drone is in my hand. Called back B&H, told them that I called Synchrony Bank, answered their verification questions and thus I was issued the Payboo card, which would be sent by snail mail. Then the B&H rep gave me a process of retrieving the new cards number and Cvv number via a simple text. After giving that info to the rep they reversed the original charge and then charged the Synchrony card with the above discount. I did it and that was my savings.

Yes. Probably a brilliant move on B&H's part. I buy a lot more stuff from them since adopting the Payboo thing. I pay off the Sychrony balance the moment it becomes available and not even wait for the statement as it is not my regular credit card, can only be used at B&H and I could easily forget to make a payment as it is not in my regular routine.

However, there are other retailers who do not charge out of state taxes. I will not name them for fear of "outing" them, killing that advantage for everyone else. IMO it is an outrage that some states feel that they can confiscate more than 10% of AFTER TAX DOLLARS, with people failing to recognize that they've already paid tax on the tax, so 10% in real dollars is more like 13% or more for most with any kind discretionary money to spend.

Keep in mind if returning to DJI your probably going to get a REFURB back.
I don't think so. I crashed my mini and fractured an arm, DJI sent me a brand new boxed drone. They should not (and I'm sure would not) replace a faulty new drone with a refurb.

I just literally received the box from FedEx and so excited. Opened the box, and inspect the drone, getting ready to charge the battery but when i started removing the stickers....

It's a freaking paint peeled off from the sticker on the gimbal! I paid the fly more combo. It's not fair for me. I haven't contacted DJI yet, about to in a few.

Anyone received minor defects?View attachment 127856View attachment 127857

I would hate it - and I would hate it more every time I looked at it. I know it's insane but I would be very tempted to return it.

If it's purely a cosmetic defect I wouldn't mind but I suspect the gimbal may have other faults if this particular unit had been rushed through production (e.g it might start rusting prematurely if the protective coating wasn't applied correctly etc).
And yes gimbals do rust particularly if you fly near salty water etc

I also bought direct from DJI a brand new M2 Fly more kit and the drone has a small scuff mark on the lens body (not the lens itself). Initially it bothered me but, since the drone is absolutely perfect in every other way, I decided to simply ignore it.
IMHO life is just too short to worry about such things -and I'm a hugely OCD person to begin with.

PS. Relevant question to all: what happens to defective drones that are returned to DJI for whatever reason? Do they get fixed, repackaged and sold as brand new? Is there a label marking a drone as a refurbed unit?

I got the replacement unit couple of days ago and it looks ok. But i haven't have the chance to turn it on yet since I'm still waiting for the Care Refresh to be transferred prior to this.
