So the Matrice 4 series just came out. It seems very similar to the Mavic series in all but the name, so I hope it's OK to post about it here.

Here are my preliminary observations:

The M3E RTK and M4E are similarly priced. The M4E has about 9% more flight time according to official specs, and is 35% heavier than the M3E and 48% heavier than the M3P. The drone should remain in the same C2 category as the heavier drones in the M3 series. The internal storage is gone.

The camera(s) and flight characteristics seem largely unchanged, except for slightly faster max ascent/descent/forward speeds. DJI claims "The Matrice 4 series cameras have larger apertures" which doesn't seem to reflect in the specs - what do they mean by that?

The M4E boasts a 112x "hybrid" zoom, what does that mean? DJI also hints at better low-light and night-time capabilities.

The shutter speed seem to be limited to a maximum of 2 second exposure for the main camera, as opposed to 8 seconds for the M3 series.

The maximum video birate has lowered significantly, but I wouldn'd read too much into that.

The new 5-directional oblique and 3-directional ortho capture system seems to imply that you can map a larger area using constantly varying gimbal angles, thereby reducing the necessary flight overlap or flight repetitions?
If I am reading this correctly, I assume this will only work using 0.5s JPG shooting intervals and flight speeds that ensure your forward overlap is maintained at (5 + 1) * 0.5 seconds for oblique or (3 + 1) * 0.5 seconds for ortho between shots. I'm not sure how that would impact the side overlap, especially considering that the pictures would be staggered in the axis of flight direction.
There is also a "Smart 3D Capture" feature that I couldn't find any additional information about.

The M4E offers a rangefinder. Is it used for navigation only? Are we able to access that data on the SD card?

OcuSync 4E raises the claimed transimission range by 10km for FCC and 4km to CE, at the cost of going from 60fps live view to 30fps.

DJI seems to be betting on its accessories and AI, catering to business and public service uses. Some AI detection features seem to have been added, but the extent isn't clear. They also seem to hint at the fact that the detection model can be trained to detect other features? I assume only DJI would be able to update the model, so that would have to be a partnership.

Is this the drone we saw in the alleged Mavic 4 leaks?

I just ordered one (I hope, with the USA cutoms nonsense happening.)

I hope I can help with your questions.

"The Matrice 4 series cameras have larger apertures" which doesn't seem to reflect in the specs - what do they mean by that?

One of the Matrice 4T cameras listed in the specs now has Aperture: f/1.7

The M4E boasts a 112x "hybrid" zoom, what does that mean?

DJI calls cameras with both optical and digital zoom hybrid. 112X is a huge jump over the Mavic 3, Mavic 3E and Matrie 3D/T with the latter 2 having x56 hybrid zoom.

DJI also hints at better low-light and night-time capabilities.

Some DJI models had low light modes which did manual settings to get better low light images. On these 2 new drones I know that the thermal model will include a IR illuminator. I am still trying to fully understnad this myself. Someone else may jump in to explain this.

If I am reading this correctly, I assume this will only work using 0.5s JPG shooting intervals and flight speeds that ensure your forward overlap is maintained at (5 + 1) * 0.5 seconds for oblique or (3 + 1) * 0.5 seconds for ortho between shots. I'm not sure how that would impact the horizontal overlap, especially considering that the pictures would be staggered in the axis of flight direction.

This is similar to the same function on the P1 payload, Mavic 3 Enterprise series and Matrice 3D, especially when using Smart Oblique. From using this on a Mavic 3E it seems like the flight plan makes you have less side overlap since the camera will take images from the front and then look backwards immediately. This can make it so that a single flight line captures images from two directions of your point of interest.

The M4E offers a rangefinder. Is it used for navigation only? Are we able to access that data on the SD card?

The rangefinder is for pinpointing a target which will give you the distance from the drone and the altitude of the pinpoint. Further this pinpoint can be used to orbit around and will show up on your controller FPV, Flight Hub 2 and your map on the controller.

Some AI detection features seem to have been added, but the extent isn't clear. They also seem to hint at the fact that the detection model can be trained to detect other features? I assume only DJI would be able to update the model, so that would have to be a partnership.

The AI out of the box identifies People, Vehicles and Boats (Max 100 I think), and shows this on your live FPV view. I do not know if you can further train this in Pilot 2, but I am sure that developers can. There is a decent active community here: DJI SDK Forum

Is this the drone we saw in the alleged Mavic 4 leaks?

Which leaks? The Mavic 4 Pro will be totally different with a round camera/gimbal and different air frame. This was the second bit of leaks that were going around. This replaces the Mavic Enterprise series of drones.
Currently

Matrice 4 Series
Matrice 3D Series
Matrice 30 Series
Matrice 350 - The leaker posted a snip from the FCC on a DJI Matrice 400.

I assume that the Matrice 4D (Dock) series will recieve the upgraded abilties since the 3D (dock) series chared the same payloads as the Mavic 3 Enterprise series
I also assume that the Matrice 40 Series will be upgraded to include the IR Night vision and 12080 thermal resoluton from the H30 payload.

DJI does have videos posted on the Matrice 4 Series page.

Also Billy Kyle has a test flight of one and shows some of its features on Youtube.

The User Manual and Maintenance manual are both on the main page under Downloads.
