New to drones

Hi and welcome :)

Age isn't a barrier - I'm very nearly old enough to be your dad yet still droning on.

As the others have said, new flyer advice is to find somewhere big and open with no trees or that wet stuff to practice flying. DJI drones are a dream to fly, but taking it too fast could lead to trouble. I'm sure you have seen lots of youtube videos on how to get the best out of it.

Have fun!

Welcome to our forum, from Texas!

You'll find that both the Mini almost flies itself. This can lead to overconfidence. Try to be conservative at first, and expand your horizons gradually. The Mini, at only 249 grams, doesn't handle wind as well as the heavier drones do. On windy days--you get those in the UK--, it's best to fly the Mini so that you have a tail wind on the way back.

Read your manual, and practice using "Find My Drone". Chances are you'll crash and perhaps lose your drone. Don't wait 'til that happens to try to learn under stress in less than ideal conditions. We have several fellow Brits among our membership, and over 120,000 more from around the world who will help you learn your new hobby. Ask for help when you need it. Share your work when you can!

Glad you've joined us!

Let me give you my 2 cents , I only started this year too with a mavic air 2. Wanted to learn and do everything as quickly as possible.Spent hours watching you tube tutorials . In hind sight , wish I hadnt watched the pro dronists who preached if you want amazing footage turn off your anti collision sensors , fly close to the ground , fly through objects etc. I did all those things , got some great shots but man , has it been expensive. Wrecked 2 drones , countless pairs of propellors and other bit and pieces. Best advice , learn to walk before you run . As last commenter said wide open spaces , know where the things likely to cause you to crash are and be VERY careful over water.
Leave the flying through forrests and old buildings to fools like me and have fun.
