I’ve had several unexpected and unknown messages during a flight of my new Mavic Air this week. Here goes…

I got the message: Obstacle avoidance will be disabled during landing. Why would Obstacle Avoidance be disabled during landing? I turned on all of the “safety” features in turn menus.

I selected Rocket, but when I tried to engage it, I got a response prompting me to select a distance. What distance is it referring to? And after I select a range, what do I press next?

I climbed to 400’, intending to shoot a panorama, but got this message:
Warning. Shooting is currently not permitted. I remember not being able to shoot a panorama because of high winds, but that wasn’t the case this day.

I was at 300’, when I got the message: ActiveTrack Flight Ended. Aircraft is entering a restricted area. I have no idea what it means, because I’m not in any kind of restricted airspace. There are no airports within 5 miles, just some low use heliports.

Any ideas?

1) I believe it is normal for Obstacle Avoidance to be disabled during landing. There are other times when Obstacle Avoidance will be disabled, such as when the attitude of the Mavic is tilted too much when there is a lot of wind, etc. On landing, it could be that it's using the bottom sensors to detect the terrain for landing instead of checking for obstacles. Not sure on the technical reason, but I believe it is normal.

2) The distance for Rocket mode is just the fly-back distance from your starting point. You can do this for some of the other modes as well.

3) I don't think panoramas work at the maximum altitude you have set in the app. Try it just a little bit below that 400' and it should work just fine.

4) Could it be that you are in an enhanced warning area? Or maybe it thinks it is getting too close to one? You can check the airspace map here:

If the lower sensors are not disabled, the aircraft will not land, as it will perceive your landing pad as an obstacle.

That makes sense, but then the message is misleading, because it implies that ALL OA is disabled, including the front and rear.

3) I’ll give that a try

4) I’m not in any kind of warning area, but there is one that starts about 2 km away. I can understand warning, but 2 km is ridiculously far, especially since I was not speeding along; I was essentially hovering.

According to Ikota, if the front sensors are also disabled, there will be a red warning seen. But I never see that when landing.

The MP has no sensors on the rear.

I am in an enhanced warning zone which is 25 miles around a military helicopter training facility. We sometimes get low flying copters around here, easy to spot and avoid. What it means is that I have to acknowledge responsibility each time I fly. This happens as soon as I take off.

You may have flown into such an area.

The OP said he was using a Mavic Air - sensors front, rear and down
