No camera feed when connecting HTC 10 to side plug

When I use the side plug I can not connect to the app, but when I use the bottom plug I am getting camera feed. This has been the most awful experience I think I have ever had with a piece of technology. Never been so frustrated trying to pair a remote and RC in my life...Please send help

I sometimes have the opposite problem--don't get camera feed thru bottom plug. But usually if I shut the drone off, then the controller, exit the app, and then restart controller then drone then app, it fixes itself.

Update: micro usb port works for charging, but no camera feed. This now makes zero sense

My phone.
