I recently grabbed a DJI Neo Fly More very lightly used from a large electronics reseller at a killer deal and simply hoped for the best regarding it possibly being bound to the original user's account. So far, I've been fortunate across several such purchases, with all arriving unbound.
The Neo, aka "Bruce" (after a certain British rock singer who is also an airman), arrived bound to an account, much to my chagrin. The seller offered free returns, tho, so risk was minimal.
I contacted DJI via chat with a polite, articulate, detailed explanation. The agent said she'd send it up to the next level for a special authorization or some such thing. The first request for more info came within an hour, so they were on the ball.
Within 24 hours, the matter was resolved, and with utmost courtesy and gratitude from DJI. The customer service was, as I'd repeatedly found before, flawless.
Had that not panned out, though, I was working two other angles. First, I contacted the electronics dealer - Adorama - and requested they be ready to cooperate with DJI and perhaps contact the original owner, who apparently sold or traded it to them. They were prompt and cooperative, but ultimately unneeded.
Also, there were still videos in Bruce's onboard storage (Neo does not use external storage) depicting a RED HOT brunette gal walking about in the New Hampshire snow by a quite nice home. The SRT data, of course, included location and I was able to pinpoint the address and have a name within minutes. A bit of a security risk for the hottie, really.
I expect, had it been necessary, that I would have been able to track down the original owner had it been necessary. So would a lovelorn lunatic enchanted by the hottie's vids.
I've read many claims that one is digestive waste outta luck when purchasing a bound used drone, but that's certainly not always the case.
Yowza! Cheers, all.
