Northeast Saskatchewan checking in!

Hello I am from a small community in NE Saskatchewan with my second used drone with limited success.
My first was a used Phantom 3 Pro which due to the motor and fuselage parting ways it parked itself in a tree!
I bought a used Mavic 2 Pro last year with hopes that I could do some mapping of our acreage, and possibly even some gravel pits at my work to learn on....
I have taken some cool video of our property which I am happy with, and hope to get better with the drone flying skills, however I still have yet to figure out a solution to be able to map that does not require me getting a second job to pay for the software!
I also seem to run into roadblocks every time I try and do something. This weekend I was trying to calibrate the vision sensors, so I downloaded DJI assistant 2 (consumer) and attached to the drone, did all the updates it would allow, and then went through the calibration process, and then got to the calibration part where it did not move off 0%. I tried reinstalling and tried it again with the same results!
I look forward to leaning more about what I can do with this drone from all of you here!

From your note, I do not expect you to be very experienced and thus the advice below… I cannot help you with calibration issue, but others have offered advice…

You mentioned "small Community" so I googled your town, and that old, steel girder, one-way at-a-time, bridge (Old Highway 35 over the Saskatchewan River) looks like fun, especially when there is a train going overhead at the same time… WoW!!!

Even if you have flown Drones before, here is some Good Old Fashion Advice…

You paid a lot of money for that Drone, put your phone number on it. If your drone gets lost or stuck in a tree and it finally comes down when you are not around, give the finders an opportunity to contact you so it can be returned.

Now, for the Fun Part, But do not let the excitement of the moment get the best of you. When you are going out to fly, do it slowly and deliberately. Get used to a set procedure and even practice it.

There are so many things I could write but these are the highlights that I feel need mentioning.

Plug in your phone/tablet into your controller; turn on the Controller and DJI Fly App (if it does not start on its own…). On the Drone, open the front legs, then open the back legs, and then remove the Gimbal Cover.

The Gimbal is the most delicate item on the Drone and banging or bumping can damage it. I also fastened a short "Remove Before Flight" ribbon to the cover so it's more noticeable and I do not forget to remove it…

Turn on the drone and watch it come to "life." Watching the Gimbal go through its self-check is almost like watching a puppy or kitten opening its eyes for the first time…

Place the drone down (preferably on a Landing Pad) while it finishes its self-test (collecting satellites, etc…).

Check your battery status (Phone, Drone, and Controller), check the Signal Strength, by now the Controller should have reported it updated the Home Point.

Lift off, 6 feet (2-meters) or so, hover a bit, check the controls (move the drone a bit forward, back, left, right, yaw left and right). By now, your Controller will probably report again, "Home point Updated."

If you go out in a rush and race thru your start up and take off before the drone has finished it prep, it may update its Home Point over that pond or that old tree you are flying over and in your excitement, you'll fly the drone long past it Low Battery point and when it engages Return to Home and lands in the pond or in a tree; it will be all on you…

Now go have fun, learn to fly the drone by sight before you try to fly it out a distance depending on the video feed, FPV.

I would also advise you to use YouTube and watch a lot of the Videos on flying and setting up the Drone. When it is too dark, too cold, or too wet, you can "fly it vicariously" through YouTube. Also watch some of the Blooper Drone Videos and learn how not to fly your "New Baby."

After you read the Manual, read it again, you will be surprised what you missed the first time and you will be better prepared for that first "scary moment…"

There is a lot to unpack here, but from what I can see all very solid advice, Thank You for that I have some work to do!
I have completed the "Basic" Certification here, and at some point would like to take my "Advanced" course at some point.
For now I have spent most of my time in the air above my acreage, and families property, I have not really ventured out into the wild much as I have a lot of changes that I want to have a record of here at home, and to learn where I have no outside interference other the the odd Eagle which has cut a couple of flights off early!
I have only scratched the surface of what my drone can do but I hope to get there in the end!

I did look at the map, and sadly there is nobody listed within about 3 hours, I did not see how to add myself to the map though.

I did look at the map, and sadly there is nobody listed within about 3 hours, I did not see how to add myself to the map though.

You are listed on the map and I found you, the map put you in the park next to the Regina Farmer's Market, in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, almost 400km due south of you…

You will have to zoom in a lot into Regina… You are listed as one of three… Once you can tag your pin, you can the move it (click and drag…), it might take you a lot of clicking, zooming, and moving the map, but you can do it…

Good Luck! And go fly your drone over the bridge when a train is passing, it makes great video!
