Starting A Little Late In Life.....

Welcome to the wonderful world of photography where there is almost no place you can not put the camera.
Since you paid a lot of money for one or two flying cameras, I suggest you get some in-person instruction. UAV Coach and DartDrones offer this. Save yourself, start with an instructor.

Best wishes and enjoy your new hobby. I started when I was about your age and decided to get my 107 at about 74 years old just so I could fly for my church (new construction) legally. Never regretted it and am a much better informed and safer pilot because of it. I did my prep with Pilot Institute over the cold winter months and they are excellent. Again, best wishes.

Thanx everyone. I've been reading some of the threads here on RTH 'anomalies', and am getting more apprehensive about my first flights. My home's location is rather wooded except for my 50' x 50' garden area, but even that has some mature (80-100 ft. high) oak and Norway spruce just outside the fencing. Not much open area around my locale now as some deep-pocketed out-of-towners have purchased all the surrounding acreage that my family had use of for 3 generations.
No where to shoot anymore as well. How I long for life as it was 50 years ago!
Never had issues with RTH on my A3S or the Mavic 4 Pro. I thought about what you said about 50x50 lawn and I remember last summer, taking off a 6x2 park bench table, surrounded by tall 100' trees on almost three sides and twenty feet from a lake in BC. There was not much room for error, I had permission from the park ranger to fly and I promised not to mess things up or cause any alarm. The RTH landing needed to be spot on in windy conditions and even the A3S managed perfectly fine despite some hesitation over the last six feet; I did not want to misjudge the distance to trees performing a manual landing, yet I was prepared to take over; it was like landing into a 25'x25' 100' deep well; I give full credit to DJI.

After lusting for a more-than-average camera drone for at least 7 years, the approach of the December 23rd 'Date of Reckoning' for DJI influenced me enough to order an Air3S Fly More Combo. I ordered it from a Japanese-based seller and had it delivered by FedEx in 7 days. Brand new, and sealed. I have zero flight experience, but have spent countless hours over the years watching and researching the industry's offerings and you tube videos. I have obtained my TRUST certificate (piece of cake), and am practicing on the RC 2's simulator.
I live in Northeast Pa. and have (or had) many hobbies. Retired from health care. I have confidence but am not over-confident about my piloting abilities. You can bet I will be posting here quite a bit.
Don't know what field of health care you were in , but as a retired ophthalmologist, aged 87, I can reassure you that you are in for a great deal of fun. Never stop learning new things. Get out there in the open country and practice a lot. Watch lots of You Tubes, and try to learn video editing to make it even more of a fun pass time. If I didn't have this hobby, I would be really a bored old guy. With this forum, you have access to thousands of helpers for advise, including me.

Thanx Dale. I worked as an ER RN for 32 years AFTER a short stint in Entomology. Both BSs from Penn State.
