I have been seeing some mavic's painted. Some with the props, some with the bodies painted...etc...

I know in order to do it correctly, you would have to tear it down and whatnot...I guess my main questions are:

If I tear it down, will that void my warranty EVEN THOUGH I BOUGHT DJI CARE??

If I use spray paint on my extra props or stock props, will it add weight? what about Plastidip in case I want to remove/change it, will THAT add weight or affect flight?

I dont want to destroy my drone or affect my flight negatively but I certainly would love to have a little flair or uniqueness to it, especially in the event of a flyoff or MIA, I know people aren't too honest and would like something unique to 'be on the lookout' for...

Well, yes. If you disassemble anything that was not meant to be user serviceable it will void the warranty. That is pretty much with everything that you purchase. Have you read the terms of DJI Care and what is covered? Anything you do to the props will potentially change the flight characteristics. What you might want to do is to look into getting some skins for your Mavic and battery. I would not mess with the props. On the P4, I have used RIT Synthetic dye to change the color and that worked well, but these are not one piece props and you can potentially damage the mechanisms, causing them to stick or not work properly and then YOU would be responsible. As you mentioned, people are not too honest, if you modified your Mavic and crashed, would you inform DJI of your modifications if they were unaware?

well, i actualy have been looking for the toc's of the care package, but couldnt find them.

I was actually looking at the skins and whatnot, but i figured vinyl skinning might add some slight weight to it, so i figured that wasnt worth it if i could go with paint easier.

There has to be some kinda paint you can use...i noticed there was a video on the official DJI youtube channel where they painted a mavic, and it looked like they did the props too...

and i saw a video where a guy spray painted and sharpie detailed his phantom 4 props, but as you said, they aren't one piece on the mavic...maybe ill pickup a couple extra pairs of props just to try some theories and testing at light usage and low flights just to try things out...who knows, maybe ill invent some kinda mod!

and yeah, if I crash my drone and have to notify people, yeah, i'd own up to it that it was my screw up. it would be the right thing to do in the situation especially if i was trying something new without taking proper precautions.

I haven't seen any painted ones so far, always stickers.

Stickers won't cause any problems and are removeable when needed. I wouldn't use paint nor touch the props.

not even in low flight test on a spare set of props bought specifically for the testing of such things?

and stickers...well, ill be damned if I pay for that kinda ****, so guess i gotta find a vinyl printer/cutter and figure out the dimensions and whatnot...

i guess i was going for the 'rustic' and 'worn' look of a paint job...kinda like this...

Well that's your call, if you want to risk it and are ready to do proper testing fair enough.

Welp, a few bucks for a set of stickers isn't much knowing you'd have to add $100 to your paint costs for the wasted DJI care...

The problem is that painting the props will likely make them unbalanced. And, there is no good way to check/balance the props.

Not sure what you had in mid exactly for the props but many used RIT dye to color them (the Phantom white props - I dyed mine black).... soaking them in really warm solution of it. The Mavic props already are dark-ish, so not sure what could be done with a dye treatment though?...

Ditto. I dyed my white props red. The dye works perfectly, but ..... never mind.

I'm also thinking of painting. I'm really wanting to get a Boba Fett themed look and can't seem to find any skins like this. I wouldn't touch the props though. To much relies on these being in the best possible condition

lol the mavic has been tested to be able to carry 2 pounds of weight, a few grams doesn't matter.
