Got an unusual message on my controller (RC Pro) for the first time today. I've had the Mavic 3 Pro and RC Controller for more than two years and I have never gotten this. It asked me to sign into my account. I assumed it was asking for my DJI account. So I logged in using my credentials and everything seemed fine once I did that. Anyone else ever get this message?

You got lucky. Some people see this message and it's the end of their equipment....permanently. 🤣

Wait, that's not funny. o_O

That's why I put the information on a sticker applied to my controllers.

CRS kicks in after a few weeks and..uh oh, I can't fly.

🤔🤔

Thanks everyone. As best as I can remember this is the first time this has happened in 2+ years and I was out in the middle of nowhere with no reception. A pain.

Its a security aspect, if the drone is stolen then it stops the thief from using the drone once the login expires, which in itself is a good idea,

And if they get stolen then they can be sold on.

The drone has to be bound in order for this to be effective. If it isn't bound and the device logs out, just put in your newly created DJI login ([email protected]) and password and fly the drone.

If this were a mechanism to stop theft then the device should never log out automatically if the drone is not bound which only hurts the original owner who isn't in wi-fi coverage. if you still believe this is an anti-theft mechanism, there is a poor design and borderline unprofessional because it is likely hurting innocent flyers vs stopping theft 10 to 1.

And if they get stolen then they can be sold on.
I don't know if you meant "can't" instead of "can" but if you believe a bound drone cannot be sold to a unsuspecting victim, well no wonder you and others here in this forum along with DJI believe this is the perfect ant-theft tool. The amount of daily misery on reddit posts by innocent victims caused by binding is astonishing. Probably half the used drones on Ebay are bound and can't be unbound mostly not due to theft but mostly due to ignorance.

But yes, there are stolen drones that get sold and resold and resold, punishing their victims repeatedly because what victim will trash the drone or turn it in after they realize they've been cheated....twice! Once by the original thief who sold the drone under false pretenses and once by the second "thief" DJI who has the keys to unlock it but won't even with a good reason like the owner is deceased.

In my case, it was not like I was completely locked out and could not fly. I could still fly the drone but with altitude and distance limitations imposed until I logged in to my account. So I'm not sure that this was even a security matter. It was very flyable without logging in.

Of course, any intent to stop of criminal would ground them, not limit their flight. That's not a deterrent, in fact, it only helps the criminal who will be able demonstrate that the drone does indeed fly and the innocent victim won't know about the limitations until it's too late. It's so unprofessional. That being said, I understand why DJI requires a login and perhaps they are left with little choices with this implementation but I don't agree with their zero-tolerance unbinding policy. Even Apple will unlock a Iphone that isn't stolen but it's take a significant amount of work; understandable if DJI doesn't have the resources.

In my case it restricted me to a 75' bubble. This happened in a remote location with no connectivity. Now I make it a habit if I have not flown in a while to just log in before going anywhere to fly.

Once you login the controller is bound to the quad, if the quad flys away and is found it can only be used with a new controller 5 times before you have to login and change it which requires the original login details

as for being bound, anyone with sense would bind the drone to the account but yes admittedly there are people who dont, however care refresh cant be activated unless binding has occured

I was referring to your "non DJI " drones

not true

that only covers flyaway; most stolen drones are stolen along with the controller

That's not true. DJI has to beg customers to bind their drones. I'm not sure you understand what binding means, it's not the same as logging in with your account. Perhaps this will help: How to rebind a used DJI drone: Step-by-step guide

care refresh cant be activated unless binding has occured

Unfortunately that's not true either. Failure to bind your account when Care Refresh is activated may cause you to lose your flyaway covered but you can activate Care Refresh without binding and you can make a crash claim without binding. At least you use to, so much has changed these days, the DJI policy few months ago and Care Refresh is gone few months ago. You can activate Care Refresh the instant your drone is activated, you'll get the email as your contract. I can do it only with my credit card and a drone serial number. Binding a drone doesn't not trigger Care Refresh activated (since Care Refresh stays with the drone and is not tied to the DJI account). Wouldn't it be smarter and more professional if it did?

Oh ok, I see. Lots of stolen DJI drones all bound up being sold on Ebay and FB. Binding is *feckless* as an anti-theft tool IMO.
