Pop-on or screw-on filters. Which do you like?

Do you wish there were M2 filters that just pop on?

It seems that most, if not all, the recent crop of M2 filters are either screw-on or twist on. Personally, I liked the pop-on filters that were available for the Mavic Pro. Screwing filters on to the M2Z is a royal pain, and twisting them on to the M2P can be frustrating. Do you wish there were M2 filters that just pop on?

I have the opposite view, would rather my Mavic Pro filters screwed on, delicately screwing on a filter has got to be better than basically forcing one on, OK forcing is a bit overkill but that gimbal is delicate.

I have to disagree with you there. Screwing on a filter multiple times risks crossthreading the lens threads. Have you ever used the Mavic Pro filters? None of them had to be forced on. Most were either clip on or had foam inside for a snug fit.

Pros and cons of both, I have a MP, so push on option is it !
I don't mind as I generally use a straight ND, but PL filters are SO much easier on the Air for example, with the adjustment by turning the front knurled bezel.
Too hard using PL push on in my view (guess alignment, fly, return, turn off bird, clamp gimbal, remove and replace adjusted a little, unclamp, restart bird . . . yeah nah).

I had M1P filters that snap into place or just pushed onto the lens, but in fact there is something else I've discovered:

Each of these six filters has a small tongue that allows a good grip and easy installation. As you can see these filters have two brackets and are pushed from the side. The filters are very tight on the lens and do not interfere with calibrating the gimbal. I like these filters not only because they are cheap, but also because they are actually very well made.

Interesting design for the original Mavic, they look extremely light !!
Hadn't seen those, do you know the brand ?

Even this design would be a pain with PL filters , but I see the one in the pic is just an ND which is no problems anyway with no adjustment needed.

Anyway, I'm used to them (nisi) now and pretty good at changing them out (rarely needed once I've chosen what ND to run), and never had an issue with calibration or secure fitment.

How do you find this stuff!!!!!! Fantastic idea.

Hahaha, I'm an intense-thinking genius, a thinker without any success, but always on the lookout for small gadgets ... lol ...

Sunnylife 6 parts set:
Obviously, this product has not been on the market for very long.

The filters were offered on eBay DE by czmisscui as a MiniPak from abroad. The price was 27.99 euros including shipping. The delivery was very fast including tracking number. A quick search revealed that more dealers (china) offer this product ...

And yes, the PL filter is most likely redundant because it is not adjustable, but I do not need this filter.
Actually, I only need the UV filter, but this set was appealing to me ...

Wonder why they did not make a Zoom version that slips on in that manner. Their Zoom filter is the usual screw on/off type. I presume that the Zoom's front camera piece does not match the older Mavic Pro lens?

Thunderdrones, To be fair I did say forcing was overkill, I meant it was an exaggeration as they do easily push on.
In past experience I found things that have a friction fit inevitably start to get loose over time, that's why I prefer things with threads.

Thanks for the link , I often use Fast Tech for e-cig stuff so will pop some of those in my next order.

Rob: While I no longer have my M1, I ALWAYS had major difficulty getting the ND filters OFF. Pushing them on generally, was no big deal but trying to "rock" one of those off the old Mavic was always a PITA. I do prefer the M2P method over threaded or push on.

Good point. Some filters came on and off so easily, while others were much more difficult. Knock wood I never lost a filter during flight even with the pop-on ones.

No it doesnt. Maybe some astute manufacturer will see this thread and create a pop-on for those of us fumble fingered members who miss how the MP filters popped on.

Have you seen any trends with damaged gimbals from this? Also is there a particular gimbal lock that you like?

Not quite yet, and since the M2 has been out for 8 months, Im going to guess that hurting the gimbal by screwing on filters to the M2Z or twisting on filters to the M2P is not doing damage to the gimbals, unless an owner really man handles it. The threads on the filters are designed to fail before the camera barrel threads do to lower the risk of cross threading. It still makes me scared to screw on a filter for fear of cross threading the camera barrel, even though it might never happen.

I have seen a few people damage their gimbal by using the OEM gimbal lock. I dont like the way it stretches the gimbal to fit the lock. Sunnylife makes a good alternative, and not too expensive.

"Thud": :) I 'totally' agree on the Sunnylife gimbal lock. By far better than the original and another one I tried, (can't recall whose it was,) but the Sunnylife lock is definitely easier to install and remove plus, it doesn't seem to stress the gimbal at all.

(Edit the next day)

I misspoke thanks to a lousy memory...It's the PolarPro Gimbal lock that I have now and it's pretty close to perfect.
