Recommendations for aviation band receiver/scanner to monitor local traffic

Hi all,

Looking for recommendations for a receiver-only handset to monitor local aircraft traffic. My flight locations are fixed and I do not see ever needing transmit capability (nor am interested in licensing). We are quite close to a towered airport, so long range is not particularly needed. Thanks!

I can recommend the Yaesu FTA-450L transceiver. It’s for voice communications only (meaning it’s not also used for plane navigation). It is capable of transmitting as well as receiving. But you can easily disable its transmission capability.

many of the older hand held scanners have air band in them and can be found for $20-50.
