No. The problem with the original registration program was that the FAA exceeded their authority as granted by Congress. Congress then passed a new law specifically granting the FAA authority to register drones. There are no serious grounds to challenge the current registration program.

It was 5.5 lbs or heavier originally which would make the mavic pro free and clear (which ... ), but now .55 lbs or heavier and under 55 lbs.

Ok...looking at it again...if you have ANY plans to use the drone for part 107, because you've got the part 107 certification, ANY size drone must be registered. So it doesn't matter that you have a Mavic mini, under the .55lbs, if you're using it for part 107 operations, it has to be registered even though you won't be using it for part 107 all the time. The legislation that now authorizes the FAA to do what they were already doing is 2400 pages long that none of our representatives even bothered to read before it passed. The .55 lbs is just a gimmick so that the local grocery store can sell toy quads that end up in the trashcan.

The Mavic wasn't quite in their vision when they drafted the legislation, and the mav somewhat is above the legislative standard. The legislation however errs on the side that everything can and will go wrong even on a delicate instrument such as the Mavic. But not all drones are Mavic quality, so hence still a problem.
