Remember to focus

I've seen so many videos (especially when the Mavic came out) where they talk about remembering to focus. I shrugged, who doesn't remember to focus? Apparently me. The issue I expected to have the least amount of problems with ended up annoying me the most.

Latest update focusses for you and even when you dont want it to, so it's a bit late...

I have only ever had the latest update, so I have no comparison. I did start my setup by enabling the switch "Enable MF". Am I correct to assume it's a new feature and before there was no auto focus?
