Let me preface what I’m going to say with, I am not an economist. But do you think it’s fair that China charges so much in tariffs and I guess we have not been? If you think it should be more balanced, then why aren’t we mad at previous administration(s) for not fixing it?
Is the trade deficit a bad thing?

Re anger at previous administrations…….Because it worked. Because it did not lead to economic chaos, because it didn’t trigger massive retaliatory tariffs, because it did not massively devalue retirement accounts overnight.

I could go on, but I’m not an economist either.

Apples shouldn't be compared to oranges.

There have never been tariffs similar to these, applicable to all products from nearly all countries. There have never been 25% across the board tariffs applied to imports from our neighbors Mexico and Canada.

These tariffs have triggered massive retaliatory tariffs.

No, the large declines in stock prices following the tariff announcements did not happen overnight. It took a few weeks.

Did it work? Or were we just digging ourselves further into a hole, and now we've realized how far down we actually are?
You have a better idea how we should get our country and economy back?

I'm not an economist either, but it seems taxing US citizens to death while we simultaneously give all our money away to other countries and outsource every last bit of our economy doesn't seem like the brightest idea.
Nobody wants to do the hard work it takes to get there, but somehow everyone wants to enjoy the spoils.

My stock portfolio strongly suggests otherwise.

Everyone should just calm down. China needs the revenue more than the U.S. This is just leverage and when it's settled, things will be back to normal (or close). I'm not an economist but I do have a friend "in the know" and he said, despite what's reported by the media here in the U.S., there are talks at the lower levels. They will plead their case to the big boys...just have to figure out how to make it all look good.

I live in Canada so it's going to be interesting as to what price they set on the Mavic 4 line. We have no Chinese tariffs. I guess that if they go back to the original price of the Fly More Combo with the RC 2 at $3,200.00 USD for the Canadian market. I guess that Americans will be crossing the border to buy the Mavic 4 series. No matter what the price will be out of reach for the vast amount of Americans given so many people living paycheck to paycheck. The biggest market for DJI is America but they sell their drones around the world so, it won't be a total loss for them.

,,, despite what's reported by the media here in the U.S. ...

The really disturbing news about tariffs is being reported by the White House.

There's no media bias in reporting 104% (China) and 25% (Mexico and Canada) and 10% (almost all other countries and a few uninhabited islands).

I didn't mean bias with regards to the numbers. But for them to say neither side is willing to negotiate is definitely off the mark.

So, am I correct in saying that you and those that agree with you are ok with other countries charging the United States a much greater tax than the we charge them?

I've scanned the NY Times, Washington Post, CNN, and FoxNews and didn't see anything saying that neither side is willing to negotiate. In fact, the NY Times quoted Trump as saying that everything was on the table. I don't think the media is causing all the concern about tariffs. The facts are.

To clarify your position, please post some specifics as opposed to generalities. I would like to learn more about your point of view.

That’s old news. All the media are reporting today that the China tariff is actually up to 145% !! That equates to an effective embargo on all Chinese goods.

Yep. The White House announced this afternoon that the 125% was in addition to the earlier 20%, making the total 145%. With respect to tariffs they seem to have more than a little difficulty lately with numbers and dates.

So, it the full tariff is applied to a $199 bare bones Neo, the total (before sales tax) will be $487.55.

The $3889 Mavic 3 Pro Fly More Combo with RC Pro will be $9,528.05.

At some point, the rising cost of a DJI drone and the descending value of my 401(k) will cross.

You would think somebody in the White House would be keeping score and correct the totals as they go....but, go figure.
