I'm new to the Mavic, and to droning in general. I've been struggling to get used to controlling the drone. Which stick to use etc. I start each move tentatively, because I'm not yet sure what will happen. I haven't been above 10 metres high (except during RTH), and no further than 100 metres away. Something has to change here.

What would give me more confidence is if I could set a high and low limit for the drone to travel, then maybe I could fly around with a little more abandon. Does anyone know if this can be done, or have any other ideas to help a newbie? I know there's a high limit, so I just need to set a low limit.

Howdy Huddy, sorry there is no lower limit that can be set, if you turn landing protection on it should land if it gets too close to the ground (and is not traveling too fast.)

Thanks Bunny. Does that effectively sets a low limit? Or at least I can't crash into the ground?

It will auto land you if you get too close and are not flying very fast. I just tried to stay around ten to fifteen meters up when I was learning and kept my thumb off the left stick until I was very comfortable. You will be fine, just a bit of a learning curve (and it is nerve racking to be flying a $1200 brick around in the air.)

You might be served better to grab an inexpensive drone that can crash and bang into things without any damage. I learned my sticks that way and when I got the Mavic it was super easy to fly since it's so stable.
