I fly in a hilly wooded area. My Mavic pro 2 got poor range 1500 feet max. I dove in researched wifi antennas ( basic level stuff ) Starts like this. Bought the itelite dbs antenna mod for 70$. Installed the SMA pigtails in my remote myself so easy to do don’t be scared. Tested and epically bad results. Lost total rc control/signal but had excellent HD/rec signal at about 200 distance away. Wrestled the drone back. Opened the rec controller realized the left antenna SMA solder joint had failed. Replaced both SMA pigtails with much better quality ones with heat shrink at both ends. Unfortunately when I plugged them into the board I had them reversed unknowingly. Tested with the itelite dbs antenna mod provided antenna again it was unimpressive but at least I was back to slightly better than my stock distance. Since I now had the SMA connectors I experimented. Went with 2.4 ghz stuff. Bought an outdoor 2.4 gz hi db directional panel mast mount for the transmission signal SMA and a 2.4 gz 15 db yagi outdoor mast mounted antenna. Also one 2.5 watt 2.4 gh sunhan wifi booster for use on the rc SMA transmission side antenna. I mounted both antennas on a 29$ WallE dual monitor desk stand that worked perfectly I didn’t have to drill a single hole. Placed my antenna apparatus allowing me the ability to easily pan and tilt both antennas independently on my front porch. Time to test. Oblivious to having reversed my SMA connections earlier I connected the antennas in reverse And wifi boosted the wrong antenna unknowingly still. With unimpressive test results I gave up. At least I still had my SMA connector. Went a new route bought 2 dual band 2.4 / 5.8 gh Alph panel antenna at 20$ a piece. Tested with no wifi booster because mine was for 2.4 gh only. Results were very impressive Good penetration distance increased to a 4000 foot distance through wooded area. And I finally discovered I had the SMA‘s were backwards. I bought one 2.4/5.8 gh sunhan 2 watt booster at 109$ for the right side SMA tx side and will test this in a day or two. And now I won’t have to switch the remote controller 2.4 gh band to fly I’ll be able to keep in auto. It’s hard to find dual band antenna their mostly 2.4 or 5.8 not dual.
