If you look at these two views, then yes I have to say the Mercury Transit was more impressive. However, if you were in the path of totality for the eclipse (as I was) it was more spectacular.
The total solar eclipse (aka Lunar transit) is considered to be the most spectacular natural phenomenon, since the moon almost exactly covers the sun due to their distances and relative sizes. There is really no comparison to any other viewable astronomical event. If you were not looking at the sun during a Mercury transit, you would not even know it was happening. Not so with a solar eclipse.
or a telescope, yep you not wrong.
I came across the mercury video and just thought it neat to see it was an actual event and not just a CGI
Sci-Fi event from the movie Sunshine!
Awesome!
This is a bit of a sidestep, but there is a Series called "Secret Space Escapes"
Covers in depth some obscure incidents aboard Mir, the ISS and Soyuz/shuttle missions
during the cold war.
Excludes the obvious stuff done to death like apollo 13/challenger, etc
Really Great production. Check it out
