Hi all,
I’ve got my first drone on it’s way. It’s a Mavic 2 Zoom that should be arriving in a bit over a week. I am interested in doing some small scale photogrammetry point clouds for architectural work as well as some fun photography.

I’d love to tag along with anyone going out for a fly around Loveland.

Welcome to the forum from a neighbor right up the road in Estes Park! Good to see a fellow Coloradoan on here. Doesn't seem to be too many of us. Happy and safe flying!

Thanks, I’m glad to know that there are kindred spirits nearby. I’d love to tag along on one of your drone outings sometime if you don’t mind.

I'm not sure how educational it would be to tag along on some of my flights as I'm new to this also. I only have about 2 dozen flights under my belt. It's hard to get a lot of flying time up here as I'm sure you're familiar with the winds we get up here in the mountains. And the days it's not windy it's raining. hahaha I'd have to check but I'd guess it's been about 3 weeks since my last flight.

Welcome to our Forum, from Hauptmann in Texas USA!

You'll find that flying your Mavic Pro Zoom or any DJI quad is so easy. They practically fly themselves. This can lead to overconfidence.

Read the manual, and be conservative at first. Practice using “Find My Drone”. Chances are you will crash and perhaps lose your bird. Don't wait until that happens to learn how to recover a lost drone.

Lots of good stuff to shoot throughout Colorado. Whenever you need help, there are over 100,000 of us from around the world to assist you as you gain experience and grow as a pilot and photographer.

Glad to have you as a member!

“Find my Drone” now there is a sobering thought! Good advice. Thank you!

Many (30?) years ago, I used to fly radio controlled sailplanes. The controls were very basic but they were tricky to keep in the air for very long.

Well, I've had the drone for almost a week and gone out flying 3 times. So far so good. The first time, my iPhone overheated so I had to quit after about 15 minutes. Subsequent flights gave me two batteries worth of flight time.

I am amazed at how easy it is to casually fly around with no specific flight goal in mind. I can see that there is much to learn in order to get specific outcomes from a flight. Flight controls, camera controls, finding safe and legal places to fly are all part of the learning curve. I'm glad this forum exists and look forward to exploring the knowledge base.
