Hi all,

I dare say this has been asked before? So if i take off from the top of a local cliff near me and I fly off the edge, the mavic is now 3120m high.. is this no longer a legal height despite the take off altitude was 3000m? btw... my legal limit is 120m here in spain.

Thanks

What counts is altitude above ground level, not takeoff point, so yes it would be illegal. The caveat is whether Spain has laws about how close you are to something like a cliff. In the U.S., for instance, the guidance is 400 feet above ground level, or within 400 feet of an object or structure.

So, in your scenario, in the U.S. it would be OK as long as I kept the Mavic within 400 feet of the cliff, regardless of how high it was above the ground.

The Mavic will indicate the height from the take off point, so maybe 5 metres, if you fly down the height will be minus from the take off point.
