This is a little stupid long winded story (ignore if you're impatient). My Mavic 4 Pro Active tracking test did not go exactly as planned on Saturday but worked. Almost 500 bikers (road and mountain bikes) participated in Tour de Whatcom 2025, in Whatcom County WA. I was riding alongside a buddy; we waited until we were saw a mile long stretch of the route/road with no electrical poles/wires on either side. If you remember from another thread, I had the RC 2 controller mounted on my handlebar which worked perfect. My buddy waited on the other side of the road while I prepared the drone and set it beside the road next to tall grass, waving bikers away to avoid my precious drone. In any case I took off to around 30' and drifted 60' away, so I could pinpoint myself as a tracking subject; in the excitement, I stupidly drew a rectangle around the wrong biker, my buddy not realizing it wasn't me and we both resumed riding with the drone in pursuit, I observed on the RC2 controller screen, mounted on the handlebar. Almost down to the end of the mile I realized I had left my bike gloves in the tall grass while preparing the drone, decided to ride back to the spot (while my buddy waited at the cross roads) I could still see the drone tracking what I thought was me until riding 3/4 mile, and happend to glance back. did not see any drone, yet the controller seemed to be tracking someone. In any case with so much tall grass beside the road I was unable to recollect where I left the gloves; then a bright idea came to me, I hit RTH on the controller; still no drone in sight but the controller scenery suddenly changed to green fields with a view of the road below from 160' (my rth preset height). About two or more minutes later I spotted the drone way up there, heading my way and flew past, it finally paused above the landing zone (not far from where I was), commenced its descent while a hoard of bikers rode over the landing spot, I tried to wave the bikers away with no luck, yet did not take landing control over (brain freeze). The drone dropped down to and hovered at around 15' with bikers passing below, I did nothing and soon there was a clearing below (I did not know it would wait or was capable of that), it landed perfectly on the spot; I retrieved my gloves and put the drone away in my backpack. The good thing is I did not lose or damage the drone. That was enough 'active tracking' excitement for one day.
