In less than 3 weeks, I'll be off on a 5-week trip around Europe. Denmark, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus, Poland and Czech Republic. I'll be bringing my MP, so I am pretty excited. In most of these countries, except Belarus, general flying rules apply, some with different altitude and distance limits. Obviously, I'll be flying safely. Last thing I want is to lose my drone or get fined. That would ruin my trip.
I found Denmark requires drone registration, which was easy to do, but they also require insurance. The only insurance I find in Australia is for commercial-type applications. Does anyone know of a cheap hobby drone insurance? I'll only be in Denmark for a couple of days.

What country do you currently live in? If you live in the US and currently have a homeowners policy, you should be covered for liability world wide for personal use drone flying. Not commercial use though.

I have always been curious about this, seen people talk about this around the forum several times. Before they announced the new rules here in Canada a couple of weeks ago most of us thought that liability insurance would be part of the new regs. I enquired with my insurance provider about if I was covered for flying my drone and if not would they put a rider on my policy for it. Short answer was not covered and my provider considers drones to be aircraft and they do not insure aircraft.

Do you know for sure your homeowners policy covers you?
Cheers

If you look to the left of his post, you will see it states exactly were his location is.

I've got travel insurance. It'll cover drone damage/theft like any electronics. But not if it was damage during flight. And it seems Denmark requires public liability, which I can't find any insurance policy in Australia what would cover that. I think it's easier that I don't fly in Denmark, to avoid any hassle.

I can't say exactly what the insurance regulations are in Canada, but a standard homeowners policy in the United States covers the insured for most incidents that an insured is liable for. The insurance company would have to list out any type of liability exclusion on the policy, for example, a certain breed of dog might be excluded from liability if the insurance company feels that the breed to more likely to attack. But this would be asked if you own that type of dog prior to the policy being written. As far as flying a drone, I have not heard of any exclusions of liability for this. Homeowners policy specifically state that your personal hobbies activities are covered under liability, and as long as your flying your drone as a hobby, you'd be covered up to the policy limits for any harm that you may cause. If I was you, I would start by asking your insurance agent/company about liability coverage of your hobby activities first. The insurance company says they wont cover the drone, but that's not the right question to ask. You want to know if the company will cover YOU(your liability exposure) while your flying as a hobby. If they say that your flying activity is not covered, I would ask for them to show you where that is specifically excluded on your policy. It would have to be specifically defined. Think of it this way: You have taken up photography as a hobby, while trying to get the "perfect shot" you climb a tree, under that tree is someone's car, while in the tree you break a branch, the branch falls and damages the car. The car owner is suing you for the repairs. A homeowners liability policy will cover you for that liability that you caused. Just because the camera would be flying in the case of a drone, should not make a difference in your liability coverage. So again, your not asking the company to cover the drone, your asking them to cover your hobby activities.
