I wanted to get some shots of center city Philadelphia this weekend. I woke up early at 7:00 a.m., so I could get into the city before there were a lot of people/cars moving about. I packed everything up and headed down. I got there by about 7:30 a.m., got the drone out and headed to my launch site. Right before take off, I checked the SD card slot and it was empty. I had forgotten my SD card in my computer, back at my house. Luckily, I had a spare 16gb SD card taped inside the battery compartment. I just removed the scotch tape, put the spare card in, and I was good to go. I was able to get this awesome shot:

Good idea, there is just the space bellow the battery for the Mavic Pro.

Yup, it fits by about 1 mm of clearance.

I just have a spare in my fly more bag.

Wouldn't the battery heat affect the micro sd card?

As reference, SD card have a temp range of up to 185F. I suspect that a battery that is this hot would be too hot to touch. I've never found that to be the case.

That's an option too. I prefer the battery compartment though just in case I'm not near my bag or I don't have my bag with me.

great suggestion

Great shot!

I agree that you should be wary of the temps in that area, but if the battery is able to be touched, its not over 140F. Even running a battery from 100% down to near dead has never gotten mine to the point that it can’t be touched.

Next time, I want to se Billy Penn’s eyebrows!
