My one tip is if you use manual exposure, beware that the aperture changes as focal length varies. So if you are doing a zooming shot you may need to do that with auto exposure.
If you are going to do a close up when in the sky, keep an eye on the histogram and make changes to the ASA to get a well exposed shot.
I've made the mistake of setting the exposure at wide angle, then getting up there and doing the shot zoomed in and it was on the dark side. OK, I managed to do marvels in Adobe Premiere Pro, but marvels are easier in post if you have got well exposed footage to start with.
