Top Speed Record

A powered inspire in a 100mph car is impressive in it's own right.
haha good point. wonder if you could hover in the back of a cargo plane in flight? May have to give that a go.

reminds me of the world record for distance golf putt that was done in the Concorde back in the day

No need, just consider that we all as inhabitant of planet Earth go around the Sun at 68,000 MPH and around the Galactic center at 630,000 MPH. Is that fast enough for you?

Gps is usually pretty accurate . It's used to tune my speedo healer on my motorcycle

Agreed. Assuming you have a clear signal (HDOP of 1.0 or better), velocity with GPS is wickedly accurate (+/- 0.1 MPH). More accurate than the laser speed guns used by the po-po (LTI 20/20 has a velocity accuracy of +/- 1.0 MPH).

I don't know how the app is deriving speed, but it's either flat out wrong or there's a conversion error. I did a timed run over a measured distance. The app said 68 MPH and the time/distance measurement put it right around 44 MPH.

Yeah I would love to see that 107 MPH Inspire footage. Why is the app not an accurate measurement for speed? I'm guessing it uses GPS to determine speed? I've used that kind of app on a phone in vehicles and its usually within 5% or so of actual speed. But yeah I guess this thread relies on more of the honor system I suppose. Looks like so far, 66.8MPH by kmaluo is the leader.

That was a corrupted speed actually was kilometers per hour. Corrected actual speed should be 66.5mph. Dji announced an issue with a database that day stating all flights were displayed in kph and has since been fixed. My P3P displayed like a 104 that day and I knew better as I look at EVERY TXT and DAT flight log after each of my flights. My P3P fastest is 67mph.

Btw, it would take 35+mph tailwind to fly 107mph.

Actually, speed showing in km/h in the app makes sense for what I saw too. 68 km/h is 42 MPH, well within a margin of error of my short distance/time test.

Yeah....only one of those three numbers is close to right. This is with a Phantom 3 standard too, lol.

Has anyone found discrepancies between Android and IOS? With my android I'm logging 60mph consistently, a little better with wind a little less against. With my daughters iPhone 6plus same day same attitude 40mph. The 40 seems more believable as that's the spec. I've checked settings on both to ensure imperial.

I've been puzzled by the speed reports as I've seen 67 mph on my screen in a very strong tailwind and 60+ many times but healthy drones reports 45.45 as my max.

Is the instantaneous speed stored in any of the captured data?

Yes on both devices though I don't have the iPhone right now. I've noticed several posts that claim there is a an app glitch the the speed is actually kph even though it displays mph. I'm going to change the settings next flight to kph & see what is displayed.

Yes, I'm aware of the glitch as well but i don't think my drone has it. I'm calm conditions I see speed around 40 in S mode. The day I saw 67 it was blowing so hard on the ground I had to turn my hat around when facing into the wind or it would blow off. Winds aloft had to be about 30.

P3P did slightly better than Mavic.

Whee!

Go App lies. It's off by a factor of 1.47. The RC shows the true speed (as does a sight like healthydrones that calculates the speed).

You rely on the app for everything else because you dont know how to get those results its wrong really!
