I don't know if there were survivors

Black Hawk that collided with American Airlines jet was on training flight

The U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter that collided with American Airlines Flight 5342 over the Potomac River was on a training flight at the time, according to Heather Chairez, spokesperson for Joint Task Force-National Capital Region.

"We can confirm that the aircraft involved in tonight’s incident was an Army UH-60 helicopter from Bravo Company, 12th Aviation Battalion, out of Davison Army Airfield, Fort Belvoir during a training flight.

Here's a good video. This guy gives a solid explanation of how the crash likely happened.

The NTSB released aerial video of the crash site, that they acquired using what appears to be a Phantom 4. I guess I would have expected, firstly, that they would use more recent equipment and, secondly, that they would not be using DJI aircraft.

I mean what are you gonna do when you're banned from buying newer models but there's no worthy alternative 😂

Maybe they are using Phantoms because they can't buy newer models, but the federal ban on DJI doesn't just cover buying new models - it prohibits use of any DJI equipment. I've been futilely fighting that battle for many years now, and forced to use substandard, but approved, non-DJI aircraft as a result.

Either way, it does perhaps send an interesting message that they are still using very old DJI aircraft rather than newer US-approved aircraft.
