That's about what previous drones can do, in settings this can be toggled on / off usually.
I would think the Air 2 is same.

If you want them off permanently or for particular flights for some reason, you might have to cover with the good solid black cloth tape to size required.

With the original Air.. I was able toggle them off and on. With the Air 2, I see no options. Hopefully they'll introduce the feature in a future update.

I, too, was disappointed that the toggle to keep them off permanently was removed in the Fly app.

It might be in the current climate of regulation, just as with all other civilian aircraft, you will not be permitted to turn off navigation lights on your aircraft.
