Update f/w mandatory?

I have a maivic pro that I bought a year or so ago,
never updated ,works perfect ,don't fly that much mostly on my acreage.

I bought one for a friend (with his money) at the end of 2017
Its still in the box .
The fellow I bought it for has zero computer savy and does not want to be
stuck not being able to fly without coming to see me and upgrade.


My question is ,when I register and download the firmware, will it continue to fly without updates if not connected to the internet.


He has an I-pad mini that will be dedicated to the drone and I can turn off
wi fi as soon as i'ts upgraded.
Is the upgrade requirement triggered by the connection to the internet?

Another question , If I register and upgrade his drone from my pc am I taking responsibility for his actions afterwards?

Yes.

No. Make sure you're logged into his DJI account in DJI GO when registering the Mavic.

Great . thanx I suppose I should do the initial connection on his p.c.

The computer that it is done on means nothing. It is registered to whatever DJI account is entered when activating it.
