In July I was in my 15ft Boston Whaler near downtown Chicago and wanted to get up in the air quickly to get pictures and videos with my eight month old Mav 3 Classic. I took off from the bow and hit a life preserver thus tumbling into the water. I dove overboard within one second and saved it from going to the bottom. After that, I took a huge wave over the bow and the controller got soaked! At least my mission was complete.
I sent it to DJI for repairs before Thanksgiving and received a message a few days ago with the damages. $1,068. Yeah, I know. So I called and spoke with a guy. I said, "hey I can buy a new one for $1,300, how much will you give me for a trade in?" He said give me a few minutes... Came back and told me he was able to get a 40% off discount for me. I said done but, will I get a repaired drone or a new one? He said I would get a new one.
I wanted to share with everyone in case you are ever in this situation. I did buy a Mav 3 Pro a few weeks prior to sending it off for repair. I knew that I wanted to keep my Classic because the batteries, controllers, and charging systems are interchangeable. All this stuff adds up fast
Now, I am not sure I want to keep my new Mav 3 Pro. I'll cover in another thread.
