Waypoints question

Its pretty easy to fly around and record the waypoints, but is there a way to map out waypoints before you fly? Like is there a way to go into Go 4 or something, pull up a map, place various waypoints on the map and set the desired altitude and then take the drone out there to have it fly along the preset waypoints.

No. When using DJI GO to set waypoints, you must fly to each waypoint to mark them.

If you want to do that you will need an app like Litchi or DJI's GS Pro.

DJI Ground Station Pro works great !

Litchi and mission hub is the way to go, works extremely well and the mission will complete even when signal is lost.
