I was planning to fly my MA2 above my house to film the SpaceX Crew Dragon launch this happening in about an hour. However, when I checked for NOTAMs on 1800wxbrief.com, I discovered that my house is about 1 1/3 miles inside the temporary national defense no fly zone. ?

Here it is, just for laughs. The good parts are in red:

Kinda be a long shot.

What would you expect. They havn’t had a manned launch
in 9 years.
Preferably not closing off 22,661cubic miles of airspace. After all, this rocket is supposed to go up, not sideways (well, actually, it does sort of go sideways).

The launch has been scrubbed for today. Maybe the no fly radius will be reduced on Saturday since Trump & Pence will presumably not be there.

They would do that just for the president being in town... On top of that you have a manned space flight.

According to B4UFLY, the 40nm radius no fly zone is a Presidential no fly zone. I guess 30nm is the norm for launches, so hopefully I can fly on Saturday.

Looks like they canceled the launch because of weather, I would try and drive the mile and a half outside and see if you can get some footage when they reschedule it. That would be some fantastic footage. by the way if you are ever down in the Fort Meyers area we have a retail store and would love for you to stop in!

I don't think a drone, at the distance you'd be permitted to fly, would be a good choice of camera platforms given the generally wide field of view making the rocket just a dot in the frame. At that distance you need a telephoto lens to see things closer/bigger. So, it would be a waste of time/effort unless viewing a glowing dot is your thing...

A new TFR has been posted for Saturday. The area is a lot smaller as of right now.
@Halcyon maybe Saturday you will get to fly.

That seems reasonable to me.
the first section is the standard one for *aircraft* that pose and imminent security threat.
the second section is for small drones which basically says we use signal jammers and your drone is going to fall out of the sky. Again very reasonable.

Life sucks. Get over it.

Just be glad you don’t live in Palm Beach County when Trump is in town pretty much shuts it all down.
I live just passed the TFR the Stuart airport gets real busy at that time.

I considered it, but the weather is hazy and overcast, so it's probably not worth the effort.
I that case maybe they'll scrub the launch and wait until better weather.
Then you could get it on video outside the restricted zone.

I'm going to try. Unfortunately, the atmosphere is almost always hazy this time of year.

I'm a retired air traffic control operations supervisor and many years ago I actually worked that area of airspace, and over the course of my career I can say that TFR violations are not taken lightly. We have had the military scramble fighters on many, many occasions on aircraft that violated, or were heading into, the TFR. I am aware of two circumstances where the aircraft were escorted to the airport and were met by gentlemen in black SUV's. As far as the TFR's for rocket launches chances are it will stay the same size even without any Presidential movements in the area. The airspace is sterile not only at the launch site but for several hundred miles downrange, with the exception of aircraft that are patrolling the area. On a normal day when air traffic is at normal operating levels this creates a bottleneck on the west side of the launch area, and is even worse if there's weather. All traffic that would normally be traversing off the coast is now required to be routed inland. TFR's for general Presidential movements are very strict too. It literally shuts down the airport and everything around it. Okay, so can the Feds/military actually know if you're flying a drone within the TFR? Now I cannot confirm nor deny anything, but I would stay on the ground, especially if there's Presidential movement associated with that TFR.
