Hey there Will, welcome to the forum.

Hmmm, ok think I recognise Coober Pedy ?

The Tassie one, well it's obviously near a river mouth, all the tannin in the water.
Looks very south coast to me.

Love Tassie, completed some epic walks down there.
Also love the deserts, some great 4WD trips over the past decade.

Enjoy the forum.

Pretty lucky not to get shot down flying over the digs there ;)
Lots of paranoid opal miners about up there.

Cool, Port Davey not an easy place to get to without a boat.
We flew into Melaleuca once to walk from there (South Coast Tk), and of course the Port Davey Tk is quite well known.

Was very quick up in the air near Coober Pedy, for just those reasons, but at the height I was at, the little M2P is almost silent.
I go up, take a few pics and then come down again very quick.
We get down to SW Tas occasionally. Have been up and down the west coast many times on different boats, both under sail and motor.
You have to be flexible with the weather as the hiding holes are few.
Port Davey itself is a good place to wait out bad weather. Lots of nice anchorages.
Deny KIng's tin mine at Melaleuca was still in operation when I first went down there.

I didn't even know of Deny when we did the SCT, was 2003.
Read his book (King of the Wilderness) later, and it was so inspiring reading how Deny, wife and 2 girls lived there, school of the air learning for the children, very rare boat trips to the east coast for supplies etc.
A legend that will live a lot longer in his memory.
