Put Your Mavic to Work

Just get part 107 certified and be done with it...you'll get good knowledge and the ability to make some $$ money without having to worry about getting busted. Its very easy, 60 questions, $100, and about an hour!

I don't do any commercial work but I get bombarded by people in the real estate industry asking me to fly aerials and video for them. Advertise for residential or commercial real estate video or photos and you will have so much work you won't know what to do - ha!
The activity you described in your prior post about the construction site is the definition of commercial work.

Do you have any kind of ballpark numbers for what people are charging for this kind of work? The going rate, so to speak?

Bad phrasing, sorry. I meant I don't charge for the aerials and I don't do any outside commercial work, I only fly my own construction sites. When I think of "commercial" work I think of fees and doing jobs for other people. Probably should have been more specific.

People are always offering to pay me to fly their site or project or sales listing. The offers vary from $50 to $500 to 'what would you charge?' but I don't want to get into that because I've got plenty of my own work to do. There are a lot of websites that offer drone aerials - if that's something you are interested in you should check those out and see what the ballpark is for that service. But there is definitely a huge demand in the real estate market for this. Both residential and commercial real estate brokers all want aerials and video. Frankly I'm surprised more pilots don't cater to that market specifically.

I use mine for creating ultra hi-def, stabilized porn shots! I can get some amazing angles and I don't have to worry about kicking the tripod over!

Can get a bit drafty though..

Yeah I can wish....

Nah, I pretty much use mine the same as yours.
:D

bro, u funny, just don't accidentally get castrated by the blades :D

here's a very odd use of mavic I'd like to give a thumbs down to. Don't care about the wasps, but about the mavic.

and this is actually a cool use of the mavic to deliver food...yes, I know, reckless, unlawful, and ahead of our time

here's one delivering a cell phone:

the dream of making tons of money with a casual drone operation is most likely just that.
The amount of expense and time not to mention the organization of such a business, contracts, there fors and where as boiler plate , pre-planning post production and most likely a thousand other things make it a long shot. Yes some do it and do it well but take a look at the pure number of us that are on this forum alone and multiply that by the number of forums and drone types out there and you start to get the picture. It is kind of the dream of becomming a rap star thousands are claiming it very few make it.
I do not have my 107 yet but will . Initially I thought there was some $ opportunities in it but realistically there is not enough to justify your time and expense to get good at the game such that customers will select you over someone else.
On the 107 part, i really think this will come down to the same requirement as driving a car. Eventually we all will nedd a licence, have to register our drones and carry at least some insurance before we acn fly for any reason, commercial or hobby. I really believe that day is comming.
Most likely the best money making opportunity is getting some flight experience and hiring out to someone who is doing this drone business for real.
Allow me this example....you can go out today and spend a few thousand dollars and a real set of golf clubs, millions of guys and gals do. But how many Arnie Palmers , Jack Nicholas, or Tiger Woods just pop up because they have an expensive set of sticks. Sometimes the realistic golf money comes from just carrying the bag :(

True that sir...we are already required to register our drones the license and insurance requirements are surely headed our way...well said thanx

Word of advice with no lecturing because I have no idea how many posting here are in the US and have their p107.

Be very careful when doing anything commercial without cert.

I have some friends with FAA knowledge who think they are going to make some examples soon. Fines will be very steep to get the word out.

Are the odds high that they will go after YOU? Probably not, but once you are identified, game over.

I, for one, would not want to be that guy.
Are there any consequences, if you provide services on a donation basis?

As long as it's not being used in the furtherance of a business, I'd say you are good to go.

If you're not flying for your own recreation, your flight is considered "commercial". Commercial in this context doesn't refer to compensation, it's anything not recreational.

This is the issue with just about everything some bloated government regulatory group controls and uses as leverage to bolster their focus and control.
Who the heck has the ability to regulate or evaluate the actual definition of the term non-recreational ?
here are two accepted definitions of the term recrecational

relating to or denoting activity done for enjoyment when one is not working

relating to or denoting drugs taken on an occasional basis for enjoyment, especially when socializing.

Unfortunately any law or regulation will, within itself, rewrite the definition of any term that the regulation needs to establish boundaries. Easy enough if the FAA decides you were not "enjoying" the activity in question you could be in a tough position to defend your activity.

Maybe DJI can build in an "enjoyment meter" function to the software so if the FAA sees a smilie face on your monitor you are recrecrational, if it shows a frown you are working and subject to commercial laws.

A free, innovative, and safe way to get rid of a wasp nest. I wonder why he didn't use his gimbal protector though.
