I am also retired and dicided to go for Mavic Air 2S. It has almost all features I need and the same size sensor as Mavic Pro 2. It is a beauty.

I use iPhone 12 Pro Max without an iPhone protective case for Mavic Pro 1 and for Mavic Air 1. But it is OK to use the controller with the case on for my Mavic Air 2. When I use the iPhone without a case it is a little too eazy to hit the turn off button on the phone which is bad

The Apps Windy and UAV Forecast probably give you all information you need for a preflight analysis. Wind on the ground is one thing but the wind speed and direction at 330 feet and above is even more important to know before you fly.
