This should ease your mind. I am running the very latest iOS on my old iPad Mini2 along with the newest Go4 and Litchi - all with no problems. I currently using a Mavic Pro Platinum. I'm also happy with the tablet holder and sun shield I've been using.

I totally trust RTH when correctly logged and I use it all the time, so far without a glitch. I do keep my thumb on the controller's pause button however, because I enjoy doing my own landings. Love my pause button.

This is a little off your original question of size, but I just made this helipad for launching from our back deck. It can collapse down to stand in the corner. It measures 2x3 ft and mounts on the railing. It's necessary because the deck is covered and takeoff can be somewhat unpredictable...

I just watched an interesting video showing how a digital compass works. The video says the compass must be recalibrated after exposure to a strong magnetic field. It's a good demo:

Sorry for your loss. Flying under a bridge is not where you want to lose control - even momentarily. My method has been to stick with a compass calibration that's working well. It's very possible to make things worse by re-calibrating. You don't always know what's under the ground where you are...

Well, so far, so good. It still flies well, but I won't be storing my MPP next to my speakers anymore. I remember back in the picture tube days when I discovered my speakers were "sucking" the color to the corner of the screen.
