    Tablet or smart phone?

I recently switched from using my iPhone XS to an iPad Mini 5 and really like the iPad much better. The screen is brighter than prior iPads and I have not had any issues with seeing the screen clearly in direct sunlight. The processor is a good deal faster than prior gens, so I use the iPad for...

IF You fly DJIGO4 app with iOS Check this setting NOW!

Last time I ran into this, I used my phone’s Personal Hotspot to download the app to my iPad and it worked. iOS sees the personal hotspot connection as a WiFi connection, so proceeds. If you fly with your phone, and have a cellular iPad or another person there with an iPhone, or any other...

    Insurance alternative for California residents?

While a fly away would suck, and should be covered as a loss, my primary concern is the lawsuit that would likely result if my drone malfunctions and drops on someone and injures them. Almost anything would be cheap compared to that potential liability.

I found the Middle of Nowhere...

I do recalibrate when I travel long distances between flight. Besides, if someone is watching you set up to fly, it adds a whole lot of fun to the process and the resulting confusion on their faces...the spinning around twice holding your drone two different ways makes it really look like...

    Insurance alternative for California residents?

I checked with my insurance company and they cover liability, which was my biggest concern, and cover theft or damage under personal property, subject to my deductible. So if my drone crashes, it may take a whole bunch of other personal gear with it... Just kidding California Insurance...

    Flying around Laguna Beach

I made a quick video of some footage while flying around Laguna Beach, CA a few weeks ago. Watch the bottom of the screen at 13 seconds, then watch the left side of the screen at 33 seconds for some pretty cool sealife. I did not even see these "guest stars" until I got home and watched the...

I found the Middle of Nowhere...

For sure--nobody to complain out there and very few things to hit! What was funny is when I started the drone and it connected to the controller, it needed calibration since I drove out from SoCal, and once I did that, I got a notice that I was in a NFZ and could not take off. I was looking...

I found the Middle of Nowhere...

Just a quick clip from my recent off-road adventures outside Las Vegas. I was about 15 miles or so from the nearest anything. Very cool, very beautiful desert and complete peace and quiet (except for the drone, of course...). Don't worry, I have good, hardcore overlanding gear in the...

    Battery lights partially failed

Thanks for the replies here. Agree on all counts. Replacement battery gets here tomorrow and I’ll use this one for power when I plug in to my computer or to do any transfers or ops checks on the ground.

    Battery lights partially failed

Hello all. I had a crash the other day due to an unintentional low speed, low altitude meet up between my drone and a cable. I retrieved the drone and there was no damage visible. I did a full pre-flight again and put it back in the air for a short hover and very limited flight to see if there...

    Drone or tree trimmer?

This was very true that day. I was focusing on the phone screen to try and determine how low I was getting instead of simply looking up... I was trying to get fairly low towards that first tree, but as one of the other posters said, having the gimbal down sure makes it hard to see the somewhat...

    Drone or tree trimmer?

So very true... I was trying to get one of those cool “low approach” shots that then climb away as the gimbal rotates up to the waterfall in the distance. Apparently the Hollywood producers have nothing to worry about from me...

    Drone or tree trimmer?

Lesson learned yesterday. There are limits to the sensors on Mavic 2 Pros! I was shooting this clip with the intention of coming down closer to the river, then climbing up toward the upper falls. I knew the trees were there, but was watching the video feed on my phone in bright sunlight, and not...

Mavic 2 Pro looses tracking while shooting video in QuickShots

I noticed that as well and am not sure if that is because I “exported” these files from Apple Photos”, so they are not uncompressed originals. They are shot in H.264, but I think I will switch everything to H.265 for video and RAW for photos going forward. Won’t solve the weird gimbal “ticks”...

Mavic 2 Pro looses tracking while shooting video in QuickShots

Hello all, I was shooting some video along the coast yesterday and noticed when I was reviewing the files that during several of the attempts I made to film using QuickShots, the drone looked liked it completed the shot as far as the controller stated, and then returned to the starting point as...
