Hey everyone, can anyone here speak for these specific settings (-3 contrast, 0 sharpness)? After seeing God knows how many +1 sharpness posts I've found my footage far too noisy, but also didn't want the mush watercolor effect seen in darker areas on 0 and below sharpness settings. So I decided to try out having 0 sharpness and keeping the footage as flat as possible (dlog with - 3 contrast) then to keep my histogram the slightest bit to the right, from what I can see from today's test my footage is now much less noisy and by not having any overly dark areas that terrible 'watercolour' affect hasn't shown up. Now when I've added back all the contrast and a small bit of sharpening in premiere pro I think I'm quite happy with it.
Today is quite overcast here so I'm not sure how well this would hold up in a full sunny day yet. Does anyone else use these settings and go by the same theory as I have? Any pros and cons to doing this? Cheers, Bill.
