$49 Huawei Ascend XT2 aka Wunderphone = THE best Mavic screen EVER

I jumped the gun and bought one but ended up with a tablet instead. Looks like a nice phone in the box but I'm not going to keep it. I think I'm going to put on Craigslist for $75. I really wish I had a good reason to keep it but I've already got a great phone and some tablets now.

I have the Wunderphone and it works really well with the older GoApp. The screen is brighter than my Nexus tablet and easier to see in sunlight than my Samsung Note 5.
I have ordered another Huawei phone, the Honor 6X. It has 1080p resolution and a faster processor. I hope it is as bright last XT2. I will post results as soon as I receive it.

No, not a dumb question. That's what this forum is for. The reason you need the SD Card in your phone is because the Go4 App records your flights onto your phone, or whatever device you are using as FPV (First Person View) along with any maps you have cached. This is a lower resolution recording. The HD recording will be onboard the Mavic on the SD Card, along with cached maps.

If you lose your bird or you just want to look at flight data from a flight, it will be recorded onto the SD Card of your FPV "this phone" as long as you specified the card for main storage. This phone has a limited 16 GB capacity, and the operating system of this phone hogs down all but about 7 GB. That's why we need to add the SD card for more storage.
You may need the flight data stored on the SD Card to show to DJI should you have a crash or malfunction.
The recording can be set to loop, erasing oldest recordings to record new data. That setting is in the app.
Hope this helps.
I set up the phone to save to sd card. Do I need to do anything in the DJIGO app

Not positive on this answer because it's been a long time since I've set mine up, but maybe just check the app setting to loop the video, otherwise you will have to erase it to keep storing the newest video.

I flew today with the wunderphone for 2 miles out and back no lag, no problems at all. Flew threw 3 batteries without any problems. only problem is the screen recorder stops at 5 minutes. Any way to change this?

Actually, the dinky booklet that came with the phone was too small to read, so I did what most would do in the situation...Google "Huawei Ascend XT2 Manual".
I saved you all the trouble lol.[/

Do I need to change any settings in the go app to save to card?

This is the only thing I can think of. Maybe it's running out of storage space. Check the it's set to store on the SD Card.

Just select Mavic from the list of devices and if you used it with the app at least once, it'll let you go to Flight screen. Besides RTFMing, some trivial exploration and problem solving skills are good to have.

For the record, I did a lot more than "some trivial exploration". I started, stopped the app; rebooted the phone; connected the RC, disconnected, tried reconnecting, etc. Spent quite a bit of time on it, trying to figure out what's up.

So, in the event it might help other newbies to the Wonderphone with Go4, here's the "DUH" moment that I discovered (and never experienced on my iPhone):

When the app starts up cold, and you select "Equipment", the splash screen comes up with a Spark on it. That's a clue. I never noticed that and realized that if I'm trying to connect a Mavic, and I've "selected" a Spark as my equipment, with nothing connected to the phone, you're going to get the WiFi screen! Argh. If you want to fly a Mavic, you got to tell it you're connecting a Mavic.ThumbswayupThumbswayupThumbswayup

I already did that I have the sd card set as primary storage and I have 6 gb on my main phone free and 50 gb on the sd card that's not it but for some reason it stopped at 5 minutes and said maximum length of recording.

does anyone know how to take good photos in sunlight without glare, is there iso settings and shutter that are good for this. I shot on auto and the video and photo had glare. What about an nd filter? which one? DJI_0136.JPG

That is what's happening to me also. I fought it for a while last night. When I open the app, it goes to the GO 4 entry page with the Spark photo, Looooong pause, then screen comes up saying "Close App - Retry - Send Feedback" . If I click on retry, it goes to the drone selection page with Spark selected. If I change it back to Mavic Pro, it opens. This has never happened on my iPad. On iOs, it always defaults to Mavic Pro.
