There's your problem.
The 48mp (its a 12mp sensor) has sharpness and debayer issues.

Some raw files embed a small jpeg image in the file to make it easier to preview the image since the raw image itself is unprocessed and some systems don't support opening or previewing them.

I will get an sd card reader today and try transferring directly from the sd card

Hopefully they come out better quality

At that point though I’d feel concerned about inserting and taking out the sd card as the mechanism for it feels like it would break easy

I've inserted/removed SD cards from my drones hundreds of times. That's really the best way to get photos and videos to your PC/Mac in any case

I would suggest forgetting about shooting raw for now and concentrate on jpg files.
The dng image needs specialised software to read it.
If you look at it without specialised software that can read it, all you'll see is the tiny 960 x 720 preview thumbnail jpg file that's built-in to the much larger jpg file.
The dng image is like an uncooked cake - it doesn't look "pretty" and requires cooking (processing) to look as good as the jpg.

Yeah I ended up getting the Lightroom trial and was able to open up and edit the DNG files, looks pretty decent.

I have to say I was kind of an idiot and not understanding things correcttly, the picture quality is not MINDBLOWING but it's good enough for what it is, a tiny sub 250 drone

I edit jpeg a lot from the pics I download from the drone to the phone, if you want something that does that easily try snapseed (android app). I edit on my computer for other things.

I have an iPhone but the native photo editing on that isnt bad either, can adjust almost all the same basic stuff you can in LightRoom

These are pictures that saved to my phone through quick transfer so I think they are, unless quicktransfer doesnt transfer the full size pics?

Quick transfer to phone does not provide the full size image, more of a thumbnail to verify what shots were captured.

Not sure on Fly App, but on Go4App it states in App these are not full images.

Never judge camera quality by quick view transfers.

You will never get quality from quick transfer. Always look at them from your SD card in your Apple or Android files program to see what you would like to save to your device. You can see everything quickly without saving it and taking up space.

No depth of field?! What on earth are you on about?
Infinity focus is roughly 1m on the Mini 3. Its got absolutely huge depth of field due to the tiny sensor.

Hyperfocal distance is 6.6 meters - where everything from 3.3 meters to infinity is in focus.
I wonder why DJI even bothers with the ability to focus on these tiny sensors - very few want to take anything close than that

Hey all,
I recently had to return my mini 3 due to blurry edges. F1,7 and wideangle gives softer corners ofcourse, but this was way off. So I got a new one, and guess what - same problem. And the weird thing is that the blur was there on some images and not on other. I guess it’s autofocus or focus in general, maybe a lens not perfectly aligned with the sensor etc. I returned this one as well.
I am really concerned about this. Firstly - If you take a look on DJI’s mini 3 site the reference image taken on the beach is portrait mode with all corners hidden by air or sea. A coincidence? Maybe not. Maybe.

Firstly - For filming, this drone is outstanding! For photography, I would not buy it until this issue has been adressed properly.

Secondly - Where do we draw the line of whats acceptable? Dji never promised perfect quality, but whats the point of a 48mpx image if you constantly have to crop it?

There are some cases where people have a very close foreground and would want a closer focus (think movement through woodland, climbing reveals etc) so i can see why its in.
But claiming "no depth of field" is idiocy when it is in fact the opposite. We're talking tiny sensors and short focal lengths here. DoF is huge.
